The highly anticipated trailer for Injustice 2 has just been released, and it's freakin' awesome. It gives us a hint at what the story will entail, while also showing off four new characters in NetherRealm Studios' fighting game. Let's take a look at them.
A aged up Damian Wayne (Robin) is shown in the trailer, giving his father (Batman) a beatdown. Damian Wayne is the son of Bruce Wayne (Batman) and Talia al Ghul. Damian Wayne becomes Robin and is the most recent Robin. In the Injustice Universe he goes against his father (Batman) and takes Superman's side. Damian in the Injustice Universe takes up the mantle of Nightwing, but it seems in Injustice 2 he has gone back to the Robin mantle.
The man who broke #Batman's back appears in the trailer. Bane is a longtime Bat villain who is best known as being the main adversary in the Christopher Nolan film The Dark Knight Rises. In the trailer he is pumped up by Venom, his signature drug that gives him his powers of enhanced strength, durability and regeneration. But #Bane isn't just some brute — he has a tactical mind that can even give the Caped Crusader a run for his money.
Hopefully #NetherRealm makes a feature of that moment in the "Knightfall" story arc in which Bane breaks his opponent's back over his knee.
This classic and beloved Batman foe also appeared in the Injustice 2 trailer. Poison Ivy has previously shown up in the Injustice comics universe — in an Arkham Asylum cell and fighting Swamp Thing.
In the Injustice universe she seems to have a connection to the Green, an elemental force in the DC Universe that connects all forms of plant life on Earth. #PoisonIvy's signature superpower is her ability to manipulate and animate plant life, which will likely be utilized as her fight style within the game.
Brainiac appears to be the villain who will be pulling the strings, which is pretty cool in itself. This supervillain has had many iterations throughout comic book history, and it seems NetherRealm is adding another interpretation to the character, which looks awesome. In the comics #Brainiac has had many powers, but in Injustice 2 it looks as if his play style will focus on those electrifying tendrils.
Darkseid was shown in a flash at the end of the trailer, alongside a caption announcing that if you pre-order the game you'll get this Big Bad as a playable character. Whether you despise pre-order bonuses or are indifferent, we can all agree that #Darkseid is amazing. He is one of the most powerful characters in the #DCU — so powerful that he was able to take on the all-powerful Justice League all by himself. Hopefully NetherRealm makes his in-game power reflect the superpowers he boasts in the comics, and that his role in the game is undiminished by his pre-order positioning.
Injustice 2 will be released later in 2017. Stand by for an exact date. Are you excited for these characters? What characters do you want to see in Injustice 2? Sound off in the comments below.
