Although it's not exactly known as being a hub for the lowdown on games currently in development, IMDb may have just dropped a bombshell of a spoil for one of the biggest games of the year, if it does indeed come out this year. Or ever.

is one hell of a hotly anticipated title, which is no surprise after that reveal back at E3 2016. And Lord, what a reveal it was...

And if this alleged synopsis leak is anything to go by, we now know that an older, perhaps wiser, Peter Parker will be going web to wing with his ol' nemesis Green Goblin, fighting around various spots in gentrified New York City.

Hey there old buddy.
Hey there old buddy.

Whilst this is unsurprising news, no doubt leading to incredible set pieces around a wonderfully recreated Big Apple—and possible cause for die hard Spidey fans to get their rant on—the rest of the synopsis highlights the major skew in direction Insomniac Games is taking with the world's most popular superhero.

Spider-Man & Wife

Yes, according to this synopsis Spider-Man has a Spider-Wife and must divvy up his great responsibilities of being New York's protector and a doting husband. Sounds like an easy enough task, right? But who will be Insomniac's Spider-Spouse? Mary-Jane or Gwen Stacy? Also...does that mean we'll get to see Spider-Sprog Annie Parker getting up to super-madness too?! That'd be totally rad if so!

Pinch Of Salt Though

Because there are a number of things that point to the possibility of the synopsis being a total fabrication. Allow me to slip on my monocle of pedantry (+8 buff to cynicism) and take a closer look.

Spider-Sham, Spider-Sham
Spider-Sham, Spider-Sham

From the get-go you can see that Spider-Man has been written incorrectly, with a little 'm' where his super-masculine capital 'M' should be. And seeing as this is an older Parker, surely he should have taken on Green Goblin earlier into his reign? Might make more sense if this he was taking on the Hobgoblin.

Wuts good, Gobber?
Wuts good, Gobber?

Plus there's the way the synopsis is written. Not to be rude, but it doesn't read like it was written by a professional copywriter. The fact that Green Goblin is referred to "the terrifying foe" as opposed to his most terrifying foe grates. They've gone at it for what seems like forever, Spidey and Goblin. Maybe I'm just nitpicking on that one.

Nonsensical GIF made me giffaw.

And then there's "...as he contends with his usual life of being a married man with a daughter." There's something about the syntax and general build of this sentence that also grates. I reckon that whole sentence could have been foolproof if it was closer to "Spider-Man must once again fight his most terrifying foe, The Green Goblin, whilst struggling to balance his web-slinging activities with being a not-so-average husband and father." Imagine taking Peter through the pain of having a Spider-Divorce. All in radiant 4K!

Good effort nonetheless, crafter of the synopsis! All of this springs from the fact that after having the Spider-Hype PS4 dial spun from 0 to "SHIT ME THAT LOOKS INCREDIBLE!!11!" in the space of a few milliseconds and then...silence. So come on Insomniac, give us a little news huh? We can't rest for the excitement!

Amirite? Looking forward to Spider-Man swinging into your PS4 (maybe) this year?
