With the release of Journey to Un'Goro, the internal ecosystem of balance in Hearthstone seems healthier than ever. A lot of different decks from all the nine classes of the game are viable, and you have the possibility of reaching Legend rank playing almost any kind of deck you want.

Aggro, Midrange, Combo and Control decks all work out, and many classes have more than one decent deck from each type. Earlier, we've shown you viable and cheap decks that mostly lean towards aggressive play, but now we're going to slow things down. All the way down, actually, as we focus on the best control decks in Hearthstone: Journey to Un'Goro.

For the uninitiated, a Control deck is a particularly slow and oftentimes dust-costly deck. Control decks generally seek to drag out matches for as long as possible, taking their time to slowly squeeze out victory by bringing lots of big minions, combos and answers to every imaginable threat.

Most Control decks deal well with early game Aggro decks that are searching for specific openings, seeing as they're able to consistently shut down aggression through board clears, healing or taunts. With that said, a Control deck will often be outmaneuvered and outpaced by strong Midrange decks, while the Control vs. Control matchup results in very complex and exhaustively long games that might last 30 minutes or more. So keep all this in mind.

With that, let's take a look at five of the best Control decks in Hearthstone: Journey to Un'Goro.

5. Control Priest

This deck has an insane ability to just keep going and going and going. The value created through Lyra, Shadow Visions and Elise, possibly spawning more than one Un'Goro Pack, ensures that you will win the long game. Figuring out how to get there is the challenge. Utilize the class' strong board clears and healing until you starve out your opponent's resources completely. Or finish the game early with a discovered Inner Fire + Divine Spirit combo.

4. Control Mage

This deck fits in between the classic Freeze Mage and the more interactive and tempo-focused Burn Mage. Utilizing the value gained through Medivh and Primordial Glyph among others, the deck seeks to end the game with a combination of spells and decent board presence. Ice Block is there to ensure survival for a couple of extra turns, while Alexstrasza puts the opponent in 15 hp lethal range when all is ready.

The value of Spirit Echo is potentially bonkers, especially in combination with Jade Golems, and that's what this deck is utilizing. With plenty of strong aoe and single target removal in Volcano, Hex, Dirty Rat, Lightning Storm, Maelstrom Portal and Doomsayer, your plan is to survive until the value of the Jades you're spawning is just too great for your opponent to consistently deal with.

2. Control Paladin

The most expensive deck on the list, there's plenty of big minions to find here. Like the above Priest deck, the value here is nearly unlimited as Elise, N'Zoth and MVP Stonehill Defender will keep generating resources. The problem is getting through the early game by timing the use of the deck's essential board clears perfectly. If you manage that, you should be golden.

The Warrior Quest was one of two Quests that actually turned out to be good in the Un'Goro meta. With this deck you'll be thwarting aggro decks early on with your many taunts and area of effect and later blasting their face with your buffed Hero Power. Be mindful not to go too late with the deck though, as it can get out-valued by other Control decks that play around your random eight damage nuke.
