Beyond Good and Evil 2 was announced in 2008. It's 2016. What's going on, Ubisoft?
Created by the beloved designer of the Rayman franchise, Beyond Good and Evil was released in 2003 to critical acclaim, though it was ultimately a commercial failure. However, the title has since developed quite the mainstream following with thousands of players calling for a sequel. Though Ubisoft is indeed developing Beyond Good and Evil 2 with Michel Ancel at the helm, we've kinda just been sitting around waiting, even though CEO Yves Guillemot reassured us at E3 2016 that it's "still coming."
But then this happened.
Beyond Good and Evil 2...Is That You?
Posted by Michel Ancel himself, and preceded by Ubisoft's French Twitter account stating "Michel Ancel has an Instagram account, and we advise you to follow closely," this concept art could give us a glimpse of the sequel's direction. Are we looking at a prequel here? Is that really Pey'j?! Or are we looking at a new generation of bipedal pig companions? Where's system 4?! So many questions!
Is Beyond Good and Evil 2 Releasing for the NX?
A few months back, the gaming community caught wind of a rumor that suggested Nintendo was actually financing the return of Beyond Good and Evil. We've already seen the big N take on external franchises with Bayonetta 2 (which is freakin' amazing by the by), so why not here?
The rumor came from Desturctoid, who claimed various sources revealed that Beyond Good and Evil 2 was set to be a 2017 NX exclusive. They also disclosed a working title, Beyond Good and Evil: The Prejudices of Philosophers.
This is apparently a reference to a specific chapter in the philosophical text Beyond Good and Evil by Friedrich Nietzsche, which details how morality can be altered by authority, and the ways black-and-white morality overlooks the larger complexity of the nature of morals. Basically, it's the chapter about looking beyond the concepts of good and evil. - Destructoid
We all understand that the NX is close at hand, but Nintendo has yet to even announce a date for the unveiling of its portably powerful console. Could the revival of Beyond Good and Evil convince a ton of gamers to invest in the NX at launch? With The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild looking as good as it does, that'd be an impressive lineup to launch a console with.
