The next big expansion to Destiny is just one week away. Destiny: Rise of Iron will feature a new story campaign, new crucible mode called Supremacy, new exotic weapons and armor, and best of all, a new raid called Wrath of the Machine.

Many guardians are ready for a new adventure but the question is, how do I prepare for the DLC? Although there is no right way to prepare, many have stated that the best way to get ready is to edge your faction, save useless legendary weapons and armor, buy a lot of heavy ammo, and save exotic engrams.

Edging Your Factions

Edging Factions
Edging Factions

Edging is what the Destiny community describes as almost ranking up a faction. Bungie has already stated that when a player ranks up a faction, they will now be given the option of selecting a weapon or armor piece by the faction representative. Whether its in Crucible, Vanguard, New Monarchy, or Future War Cult, the player guarantees themselves a shiny new toy or armor piece. The fastest way to rank up a faction is to use the combination of faction rep boosters and a class item with the Vanguard/Crucible rep gains perk.

In addition, buying heavy ammo packs from Xûr is a great way of ranking up FWC, New Monarchy, and Dead Orbit. How? Well it's simple. Each faction has a material exchange for reputation. One heavy ammo will get you 25 rep for your faction. Xûr sells heavy ammo in packs of 3 for the cost of 1 strange coin. Therefore, by buying ammo from him, you are buying 75 rep and it only takes 100 heavy ammo bricks to rank up. So the next time Xûr is in the tower, throw your strange coins at him. I did and I'm seating at around 1100 heavy ammo.

Save your useless Legendaries!!

Let's be honest, we all have a vault full of legendaries waiting to be dismantled. But don't to it yet. When Rise of Iron comes out, every vendor in the tower is going to have new weapons and armor up for sale and the only way to buy them is with Legendary Marks. Since the cap for marks is 200, you can theoretically have more marks in your inventory and vault. How is that? Well you can get 3 for dismantling an unleveled legendary and up to 5 for a completely leved one. This way you have enough to buy a few new toys and armor.

Save your Exotic Engrams

Since the light level is being raised to 380 at launch and then to 400 when the hard mode Wrath of the Machine comes out, many players are going to be grinding out the game to reach that max light level. Although exotic engrams that were dropped during the lifespan of The Taken King will most likely decrypt TTK exotics, it is still not know if that will decrypt to higher light levels. Regardless, doing this is completely optional compared to the other ways to prepare. But it is harmless to do so.
