Spoilers for Dragon Ball Super, Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball Xenoverse 1 follow.
In the latest installment of Dragon Ball Z-themed video games, Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 has hit video game store shelves everywhere and become one of the most highly revered games in the franchise. Some of the previous Dragon Ball video games weren't received all that well, but this one is guaranteed to quell fans' appetites for a video game worthy of the Dragon Ball name.
In Dragon Ball Xenoverse 1, the main campaign picked up in an alternate universe. Within the Xenoverse, Future Trunks becomes a member of the Time Patrol after his adventures during the Cell Saga. The Time Patrol are time travelers who have been tasked with stopping third parties from interfering in moments from history.
As a member of the Time Patrol, Future Trunks is tasked with the same mission in a new Dragon Ball story. In this new story, we're introduced to quite a few familiar characters by revisiting moments from the past, while introducing some new faces to the franchise as well. Future Trunks has the duty to stop moments in history fro being altered — or face the consequences of a shift in the timeline.
Over the progression of Dragon Ball Xenoverse 1, Trunks battles Mira, Towa and Demigra over their altering of the past. Their fight eventually comes to a close and Trunks is victorious, but the story is far from over.
Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 will pick up shortly after the events of Dragon Ball Xenoverse 1, revisiting the whereabouts of Mira and Towa since they were left unaddressed in the previous installment.
The newest installment will continue to explore a storyline separate from the Dragon Ball anime. As part of the extended Xenoverse story, a new variation of a veteran Dragon Ball Z character will become part of the plot: Bardock.
Bardock is returning in quite an interesting manner. Two versions of his character have been added to Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2: Time Breaker Bardock and Super Saiyan 3 Bardock. The one of most interest is Time Breaker Bardock, because he's been seen alongside the villainous Mira as the mysterious Masked Saiyan.
Beyond the newly revealed Bardocks, several characters from the ongoing companion anime series, Dragon Ball Super, have been added to the character catalog of Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 as well. A few of the new additions to the Dragon Ball Super series were included in Dragon Ball Xenoverse 1 DLC packs: SSGB Goku, SSGB Vegeta, Whis, Golden Frieza, Jaco and Beerus. But this time around, even more heroes and villains from Dragon Ball Super are to make their debut.
As of now, four characters from Dragon Ball Super have been confirmed for the upcoming DLC pack: Hit, Frost, Cabba and Black Zamasu — but more are bound to be joining the ranks of Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2.
The most recent season of Dragon Ball Super introduced several more heroes and villains who could probably be added, so here are the characters most likely to be included in Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2.
Champa and Vados
As the God of Destruction for Universe 6, Champa was introduced as an antithesis to Beerus.
Beerus, already known as the God of Destruction for Universe 7, was known since the Resurrection of F event, which saw Frieza reborn into Golden Frieza. During this event, Beerus and Whis made their first appearance in the Dragon Ball universe.
Vados is the sister to Whis. Both are angels within the Dragon Ball mythology, and reside as guardians over the Gods of Destruction — who are quite unpredictable, so they require angels to keep them restrained. The angels Whis and Vados serve as martial arts trainers to the Gods of Destruction.
Botamo was one of the fighters for Universe 6 during the Universal Martial-Arts Tournament waged between the Gods of Destruction, Beerus and Champa. Botamo presented a difficult challenge for Goku — but in Goku-like fashion, he figured out how to beat the unmovable Botamo. It's funny how Botamo looks almost like a pumped up Winnie The Pooh.
Initially, Magetta was thought to be a machine, but it turns out his species is made of a type of metal. Magetta was also one of the Universe 6 fighters competing in the Universal Martial Arts Tournament. During the tournament, Magetta almost burned Vegeta alive by producing an excess of steam in the enclosed arena. However, Vegeta overcame the unpredictable handicap placed on him and won the match by breaking the barrier to the enclosed arena, relieving the pressure of Magetta's technique
Gryll and Enforcers
Gryll, a resident of the distant planet that Trunks and Goten accidentally got shipped off to, took possession of the Living Water and became its host. (The Living Water is capable of making a copy of its host imminently before their life-force is destroyed.) Gryll assumed the Living Water would give him superhuman strength, but it turned out to be a parasitic organism.
Vegeta turned out to be another victim of the Living Water. It consumed Vegeta and made a copy of him known as Copy-Vegeta. Luckily, Goku and the team were victorious and the real Vegeta was restored upon the defeat of Copy Vegeta.
Gowasu and Zamasu
Gowasu and Zamasu are the Kais of Universe 10. Similar to Supreme Kai, these Kais reign over their respective universe. However, Zamasu and Gowasu aren't your everyday Kais. They have access to Time Rings, which allow them to travel through time.
Another notable difference comes in how Zamasu is a sociopath and Gowasu is in denial about being able to convert someone (Zamasu) who is truly evil. In one of the timelines, Zamasu executes Gowasu for the right to be Kai of Universe 10 and then goes on to make himself immortal by wishing for it from Shenron.
The fusion of Zamasu and Black is expected to take place this week and should be quite an interesting spectacle since it appears as if the Fused Zamasu is omnipotent, meaning the world is doomed — but that's not how Dragon Ball works.
Super Saiyan 2 Trunks
Future Trunks's new form wasn't given a name in the Dragon Ball Super anime, but the Manga has the new transformation of Trunks listed as SSJ2 (Super Saiyan Level 2). That makes sense, in accordance with Trunks's current Super Saiyan level. Some have claimed that Trunks has already gone Super Saiyan God with the blue aura as an indicator — but at most, the blue aura is an indicator of what's to come in future episodes of Dragon Ball Super.
Even More Characters?
Aside from these Dragon Ball Super characters, there are a few other character variations that will likely be added in an upcoming DLC pack for Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2. A highly anticipated one is Goku's Kaioken transformation while in Super Saiyan God form, which will probably become available in a future DLC pack as well.
As a member of a species similar to Frieza, Frost has multiple forms. He displayed all three in his bout with Goku. He took to cheating to win the bout and was disqualified as a result.
Frost is confirmed for the first DLC Pack for Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 but there's no word as to which form of Frost will be included, or if all three forms would make an appearance.
Goku Black (Super Saiyan Rose)
Once Zamasu was revealed to be in control of Goku's body, it left us with quite a shock. An even bigger shock came when Zamasu (Goku Black) was able to reach a Super Saiyan level. It wasn't the average Super Saiyan transformation since Zamasu is the one in Goku's body, but the transformation did give Zamasu (Goku Black) a huge advantage over Goku and Vegeta. The two mortal Saiyans had to compete with an immortal Saiyan who only gets stronger every time he's beat by an opponent. Then, tagging on his newly reached Super Saiyan level, he became quite formidable.
Goku Black has been confirmed for Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2, but we shouldn't expect that his Super Saiyan Rose transformation will be included, so it will likely be introduced later on in a future DLC pack.
Goku (Super Saiyan Blue Kaioken)
As part of Goku's last stand against Hit during the Universal Martial Arts Tournament, Goku took his Super Saiyan God Form one step further by unleashing his Kaioken technique at the same time. Supercharging his power one step further, Goku was almost traveling through inter-dimensional space. Of course the transformation didn't last very long and it caused quite an amount of damage to Goku's body by using it.
At least Goku learned that he can't use the Kaioken technique freely because it will inevitably tear his body apart. It would be fairly entertaining to use as a last resort transformation in Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2. But one would assume that prolonged use of the form would result in the character's own death. Regardless, Super Saiyan God Goku in his Kaioken form would be insanely cool to see in a video game.
