Video game movies are infamous for their lack of quality. Despite continued efforts, their reputation has not been helped by recent attempts like Warcraft, Ratchet and Clank and Assassin's Creed, all of which were expected to break the curse in their own way.

But maybe some other games, given the right casting and script, could one day break out from the stigma and be a great success. In that name, MuchGames.com has conducted a survey of over 2000 Americans asking them which A-list actors they think could take on the major roles in video game adaptations — here are some of the results!

1. Tomb Raider: Angelina Jolie as Lara Croft

There is no replacing Angelina Jolie as Lara Croft! She may have gotten a lot older since she last played the role, and Alicia Vikander may be taking over in the upcoming film, but that doesn't stop video game fans from proclaiming Jolie as the one true tomb raider.

There was also some love for Jennifer Lawrence, Gal Gadot and Jessica Alba in the survey. As for the supporting characters, the character Zip got a lot of big names mentioned including Denzel Washington, Dwayne Johnson and Vin Diesel, while Winston had names like Harrison Ford and Pierce Brosnan popping out.

2. Uncharted: Liam Neeson as Nathan Drake

Yes, despite being considerably older now than the role of Nathan Drake would call for, Liam Neeson is still a fan favourite for the job, gaining the most votes with the likes of Gerard Butler, Chris Pratt and Tom Cruise lagging behind him.

Elena Fisher gets Jennifer Lawrence leading in front of Emma Stone, Charlize Theron and Scarlett Johansson, while the faithful and lovable Sully gets the legendary Harrison Ford mentioned ahead of George Clooney and Bruce Willis.

3. The Last of Us: Hugh Jackman as Joel

Who could have seen it coming? After his performance in Logan as a character similar to Joel in The Last of Us, it is no surprise to see Hugh Jackman topping the list for Joel, ahead of Gerard Butler and Christian Bale.

As for Ellie, Emma Stone, Daisy Ridley and Jennifer Lawrence take the top spots. Tess has Jodie Foster leading the poll ahead of Carrie Ann-Moss and Jessica Biel.

4. Resident Evil: Emma Stone as Jill Valentine

A more traditional casting for the Resident Evil games leaves out Milla Jovovich's now famous character of Alice in favour of Jill Valentine. Fans chose Emma Stone over Jessica Alba and Jennifer Lawrence.

Chris Redfield should apparently be played by namesake Chris Pratt, over the likes of Chris Evans and Ben Affleck. It would be interesting to see a film more closely linked to the original game now that the Jovovich film series has come to an end.

5. Halo: Dwayne Johnson as Master Chief

Halo would be a huge undertaking to film and would require one of the most entertaining men in the world to take on the role of Master Chief if you ask this survey, who proclaim Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson as their man ahead of Arnold Schwarzenegger or Chris Pratt.

Jennifer Lawrence tops the poll for Cortana, ahead of Jessica Alba and Emma Stone, while Avery Johnson has Denzel Washington at the top ahead of Dwayne Johnson again and Vin Diesel. Wouldn't it be fascinating to see Dwayne Johnson and Vin Diesel together again on such a huge stage?

6. Half-Life: Robert Downey Jr. as Gordon Freeman

An unquestionable favourite for the leading role of Gordon Freeman in Half-Life is Iron Man himself Robert Downey Jr. Far behind him on the poll comes Ben Affleck and Andrew Garfield.

Meanwhile, fans are hoping for Christian Bale as G-Man ahead of Harrison Ford and Pierce Brosnan. As for Barney Calhoun, George Clooney tops the list even though it may not be his preferred type of role.

7. God of War: Gerard Butler as Kratos

In a rather interesting choice of fan casting, Gerard Butler tops the list for Kratos, the terrifying lead character in God of War, ahead of Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson.

Liam Neeson leads the way in the poll for Zeus, a role he's already taken on in Clash of the Titans and its sequel, while Angelina Jolie leads Charlize Theron and Jessica Alba for the role of Athena.

8. Gears of War: Bruce Willis as Baird

A little old for the role in the minds of many, stopped Bruce Willis comes out on top for the role of Damon Baird. As for Marcus Fenix, Dwayne Johnson leads the way ahead of Arnold Schwarzenegger and, surprisingly, John Cena!

9. Call of Duty: Hugh Jackman as Captain Price

Casting some of the major names in Call of Duty can be a tough task, but some fascinating choices came out of the poll. For Captain John Price of the Modern Warfare series, Hugh Jackman is the fan favourite, ahead of Gerard Butler and Bruce Willis.

His best friend Soap MacTavish has Chris Pratt on top, with Dwayne Johnson and Vin Diesel behind. The poll also cast Frank Woods from Call of Duty: Black Ops, putting Gerard Butler ahead of Bruce Willis and Ben Affleck.

10. Mass Effect: Chris Evans as Commander Shepard

Finally, for the legendary Mass Effect series, Chris Evans was cast as Commander Shepard ahead of Brad Pitt and Chris Pratt. Meanwhile, Miranda Dawson provided a final poll for Angelina Jolie to top, beating out Kate Beckinsale and Jessica Biel.

And that's all folks! There are a lot of actors out there, so it is pretty hard to call the casting of these characters. Nevertheless, I'm sure you will all voice your opinions in the comments.

You can check out more on the original project right here and a huge thank you to Kip Wright and his team for sending this project my way!
