Thanks to a local newspaper in Montana, we may have just had one of the biggest game announcements of 2017 accidentally revealed to us. It seems there's a big AAA Western game on the horizon, one that's a sequel to a major open world game by a big developer, and no — it's not Red Dead Redemption 2.
A Wild West Turn For The Far Cry Series Leaked By Montana Town Newspaper?
The Great Falls Tribune, a small local newspaper in Montana, recently reported about a film crew shooting in the area. It seems the crew is shooting a live action trailer near an old church on the Montana prairie, one that will serve as a teaser for an as-yet unannounced Western game from a major developer.
The newspaper spoke briefly with a producer on the trailer, one Jeff Guillot, who revealed the game will span 5000 miles of the West, from California to Montana, and is a sequel to an existing major franchise. One might be tempted to believe that the trailer is for the upcoming Red Dead Redemption 2, but Guillot seemed quite adamant that the game hadn't been announced yet.
Guillot also has a fairly long history of working with Ubisoft. He's produced promo campaigns for the Driver series, Rabbids franchise and Red Steel 2. Since we already know that the Assassin's Creed series is heading to ancient Egypt for its next installment, that only leaves one option: Far Cry 5 is going out west.
Supporting this rumor is a poll that Ubisoft took of their customers in 2015, which asked people to choose their favorite of several options for fresh new directions for the Far Cry series, including a Spaghetti Western setting and a Mad-Max style post apocalyptic world. Either option would be a good fit for the prairies and deserts out West. Who knows, maybe they'll combine the two and we'll see the cowboy Mad Max game I didn't know I wanted until just now.
Do you think that Far Cry 5 will head out west or do you think this might be a different series altogether? Let us know in the comments!
