Infinity Stones, Ultron, #GuardiansOfTheGalaxy and Mega Man X feature in all kinds of crazy as Capcom dropped the first story trailer for Marvel Vs Capcom Infinite.
Check out the epic trailer below:
Releasing September 19th of this year, Infinite will be a full on collision course of the Marvel and Capcom universes. While not the first time these universes have met, Infinite marks the first entry in the series to feature what #Capcom is calling a "Cinematic Story Mode":
For the first time in franchise history, the Marvel and Capcom universes collide in a visually stunning and immersive cinematic Story Mode, as heroes and villains battle together to save their merged worlds from a sinister new threat, Ultron Sigma. A combination of the robotic foes known as Ultron from the Marvel Universe and Sigma from the Capcom Universe, this psychotic villain is obsessed with infecting all organic life with a cybernetic virus.
With such rich characters and content to draw from, it's a wonder that a full-length story mode hasn't made it's way into previous games. Thankfully this time it's a highlight of the new game.
So what's actually going on?
An Alliance Of Evil Robot Computer Viruses.
The main focus of the trailer is on an alliance between Marvel big bad, Ultron and #MegaManX's arch rival Sigma. Their goal is the same as it is any other day: exterminate all non-mechanical life and rule. To accomplish this goal the two fuse into one being simply known as "Ultron Sigma". Here's hoping this character is actually a playable fighter on the disc; we all know how season passes can work sometimes.
Honestly, the pair couldn't be a more perfect match. Two ridiculously powerful robots that double as manifestations of computer viruses. The two of them together could probably infect just about anything. And now, with the power of the Infinity Stones, perhaps they really can infect anything–like say, an army of Asgardian warriors (more on that below).
#Ultron Sigma looks to be a worthy and menacing villain. Not to mention the likelihood of a Mega Man X-centric story arc (caused by X trying to take down his rival), would be a welcomed addition by fans of the blue bomber. Not to mention, it's nice to see something #MegaMan related, it is his 30th birthday after all.
Infinity Stones, It's Always About The Infinity Stones.
It seems with Marvel the #InfinityStones are at the center of everything as of late, even this article (see what I did there?). The most powerful macguffins of all time once again make their return, this time it's to allow Ultron Sigma to forge a new universe by combining both themselves along with the #Marvel and Capcom universes.
Judging by the trailer and the character's design, we know that at the very least, Ultron Sigma is in possession of the Time and Reality stones. Makes sense since they had to bend both time and reality to fuse the two universes.
It'll definitely be interesting to see just how all of the Infinity Stones will be used in the story and more so how they or if they will have any effects in battle. But the stones Ultron Sigma does possess were probably used to...well, take over everything.
Ultron Sigma Has Taken Over Asgard...And Possibly Everything Else.
Sitting upon his throne we see Ultron Sigma commanding an army of corrupted Asgardian warriors. He says, "The prince of Asgard has come home...show him what we've made of you." Judging by the helmets, throne, and what appears to be some sort of warped version of the Bifrost bridge, it's safe to assume Ultron Sigma took over Asgard. He may have possibly seized Odin's power as well.
In addition to this, we also see swaths of Ultron Bots battling the heroes on the Bifrost bridge in addition to a brief shot of #Hulk crushing an Ultron Bot in a dessert location. Chances are Ultron Sigma managed to conquer not only Asgard but the majority of this new universe.
If this is the case, Ultron Sigma, with the Infinity Stones, power of Odin, and the sheer might and abilities of both Robot Masters (Mega Man pun anyone?) is going to be the toughest villain either side of the Marvel or Capcom universe has faced.
We're Gonna Need Plenty Of Heroes To Save The Day.
With the threat of Ultron Sigma so great, a vast amount of heroes will be needed. The trailer showed off the likes of Strider Hiryu, Hawkeye, Thor, Hulk, and of course Mega Man X who unfortunately wasn't doing so well, the guy keeps getting beat up.
There's plenty of others to come. The trailer was titled "Story Trailer 1" so we can certainly expect another Story Trailer with more characters reveals and hopefully more scenes like the one with Rocket and X soon.
Overall Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite is shaping up to have the most robust single player experience in the series to date with a full length single player story mode. Let's just hope that it's all worth it in the end.
