News that a hotly anticipated game has been delayed is usually met with a chorus of groans bemoaning the fact that we will have to wait an extra set of weeks, months or even years to get our hands on the shiny new title. But in the case of Friday the 13th: The Game, this is all for the greater good.

Originally marked to launch Autumn/Fall 2016, developer Gun Media announced that the game is being pushed back to next year so that can add a single-player campaign, as well as AI bots, a new playable character in Tommy Jarvis and a third map named Packanack Lodge.

Here's the latest Friday The 13th: The Game trailer to satiate your bloodlust:

With the new inclusions comes a change to base game's price. The game will see an increase in price from $30 to $40 for digital orders, but physical copies will remain at $60. Luckily for you pre-order bods, if you registered an early request for a copy you won't have to pay a single dime for any of the new content.

In a press release Gun Media studio head Wes Keltner had this to say about the delay:

The first thing people are going to read here is "delay". We want everyone to be assured that coming to our decision to delay was no easy matter, but we believe that the positives far outweigh the negatives. We've been reading day in and day out on our social media feeds that single player and Tommy Jarvis were in such a demand that we couldn't ignore our fans. After securing funding, we're here to tell you that it is a reality and we're making this game even bigger. It sucks that there's a delay, but the wait won't be too long and it's going to offer more for fans in the long-run!

Gun Media even went so far to add rough dates for when we should expect to get sweaty palms on Jason and his mask.

  • Late 2016 sees the beta release launch with four additional keys for your pals...
  • Early 2017 is when Tommy Jarvis and Packanack Lodge will be coming into our lives...
  • Summer 2017 will see us going it alone in a single-player mode with AI bots.

So not all is lost right, guys?

What do you think?

Delayed to add more genius content? That's a badass move!
