Gears of War 4 has finally been released for the Xbox One and PC and the critical consensus is that it was more than worth the wait. Developer The Coalition has done a fantastic job hauling Marcus and co. back from retirement, bringing Microsoft's flagship shooter to a new generation of hardware and gamers.

But while there are some who will glide through Gears of War 4 kicking ass in the campaign and dominating in the game's various multiplayer modes, far fewer of us will be claiming every achievement the Xbox exclusive has to offer. But in order to help you on your quest to becoming the ultimate gear, we thought we'd point you in the right direction. The rest is up to you, gamer friends.

Gears of War 4 & How to Earn its 5 Hardest Achievements

Are you capable?!
Are you capable?!

5. The Sound of Silence

In order to explain this one I'll need to spoil a little moment in the game involving good old Marcus Fenix. If you're prepared for that, then let's go.

At one point during the Gears of War 4 campaign, specifically Act II Chapter 3: Geared Up, the player will be awarded with the Custom Lancer from Marcus. JD is gifted this badass weapon, but co-op buddies playing as one of the other two protagonists will still receive the weapon for tagging along.

Once you've got it in your possession, you need to ensure that you hang onto it until the end of the game. Well, almost the end. Resist the urge until Act V Chapter 2: Killing Time and you'll get yourself 25 points for the achievement. No swapping it out for any shotguns, I don't care how low you are on ammo!

  • Equip the Custom Lancer Marcus gives you in Act II Chapter 3
  • Keep the Custom Lancer in your inventory until Act V Chapter 2
Oh hey!
Oh hey!

4. The Night Is Dark And Full Of Terrors

That it is. But things in Gears of War 4 become far more terrifying once you crank up that difficulty. In order to get the 30 points awaiting you at the end of this achievement, you'll need to complete the entire campaign on Insane difficulty. Sound easy? Well it's not, okay!

  • Complete the campaign on Insane
  • Can be earned in single player and co-op

3. I've Killed Things, Seen Places

So, dear reader, you think you can Horde, huh? Do you think you'll be able to last 50 rounds in said mode with some buddies by your side? If so, you may be in with a chance of claiming this achievement.

Gears of War comes with 10 fantastic maps for Horde 3.0, and the reinvention of the mode has been showered with praise—the golden days of the Xbox 360 are back, baby! But in order to get yourself 50 points, you'll need to complete 50 consecutive waves of Horde in a squad... on every single Launch Series map. This'll take time, blood, sweat and tears to accomplish (and some great gaming partners), but thankfully The Coalition have done such a spectacular job with this mode that you'll be happy to put the effort in.

  • Beat wave 50 on every Launch Series map
  • Waves must be completed consecutively

2. Please Sir, Can I Have Some More?

This achievement involves re-ups. Know what they are? They're essentially Gears' version of Call of Duty's prestige. So, once you reach level 100 in multiplayer, you'll be given the option to Re-up. This will bring your level back down to 1, but rather than just getting a little badge next to your name like in CoD, re-upping is far more rewarding.

Each re-up awards the player with some Gear Packs and a unique emblem to display behind your name in lobbies. Bragging rights, essentially. And who doesn't want those in the land of multiplayer, am I right? Additionally, you'll also get a unique icon which will be displayed behind your level number or playlist rank. It essentially gets a dollop of extra bling every time you re-up.

But in order to get this achievement, you'll need to re-up 10 whole times before you receive your shiny 100 points. Reckon you have what it takes to clean up in multiplayer?

  • Reach level 100 in multiplayer
  • Re-up and repeat process 10 times

1. Seriously 4.0

In order to dominate in Gears of War 4, players will need to test their skills across all aspects of this intense action game. With 200 points up for grabs, this ultimate achievement requires the following:

  • Complete the campaign on Insane difficulty.
  • Collect all of the ribbons in the game.
  • Complete all of the Horde maps and pass 50 consecutive waves on each.
  • Complete all your re-ups.
  • Earn a rank placement in each mode.
  • Get all 5 classes in the game to level 10.
  • Level any 5 Horde Skills to Level 5

Here's The Coalition's statement on the achievement:

"Seriously 4.0 [is our] streamlined take on the achievement that represents Gears fans that show hardcore dedication to the game and mastery of all aspects of Gears of War."

What do you think? Do you have what it takes?
