If you thought that Resident Evil 7's main story was extraordinary, you'll be in for a treat with the first volume of the game's DLC, Banned Footage. This volume includes a few modes that will take the difficulty up a notch and flesh out the colorful characters a bit. The best among the new parts is the Bedroom Puzzle.

Survive The 'Banned Footage Vol. 1' DLC For 'Resident Evil 7' With This Guide!

This puzzle may be part of the latest game, but it is thoroughly classic and may be one of the best in the series. In the bedroom, you've got all the basics—three lives and a spoon. What's next?

First, Some Things You Should Not Do...

Don't eat the food. Three spoonfuls of anything that Marguerite leaves on that tray for you will kill Clancy. I definitely tried it though. After all, the last thing I'm trying to do is say "No" to good old Marge Baker but I learned the the hard way. Don't make my mistake. Don't eat it!

Secondly, don't forget to reset everything. I will give you tips in this guide but it's very important to cover your tracks. Marguerite will hurt you when she visits if she notices anything out of place. It's damaging but it's also just nasty. Trust me.

Now that we've gotten that out of the way, let's get started!

Part One: Search The Room Before Marge Returns

After Marguerite leaves you with your food, grab the spoon (make note of the symbol) and release yourself from her super weak shackles. Once you get up, take the lantern that is hanging next to the bed. Walk over to the dresser and grab the lighter out of the vase. You can technically ignore the drawers all together if you plan on following this guide to the tee.

Otherwise, the top drawer has a note about the clocks in it but the bottom drawer is broken—if you open it, it will not close again. So don't open it! Be sure to close the top drawer after you're done.

Go to the clock next to the bed and try to adjust the time, you'll receive the Broken Clock Hand which you will need soon.

Next, you'll want to collect the paintings. I recommend starting with Untitled Painting A—you can't get Untitled Painting A without making the clock chime which is really going to fuck you over for a minute. Use the broken clock hand to pick the lock on the Grandfather Clock.

The painting you need will be in there and you keep it in your inventory but you need to close the clock and put the lantern away immediately. Hop into bed, lock yourself up and wait for Marguerite's visit.

Part Two: Solve The Picture Puzzle

Marge will leave behind a fork and some new food. Examine the fork for a new symbol and get moving.

Remember the paintings? Grab your friendly neighborhood lantern and obtain Untitled Painting B and Untitled Painting C from the locations pictured above.

Quickly set them up according to the appropriate shape on the wall at the front of the room and take the sewing needle from the book that opens up below the middle painting. I recommend putting all of the paintings back right after this to make your life easier.

Use the sewing needle as a replacement clock hand for the clock next to the bed and then set the time to 5 o'clock (the same time as the Grandfather clock). The bed is going to slide away just like we saw in the main game but now the clock is going to make a whole lot of noise and lure Marguerite to the room.

Make note of the Snake Door under the bed. Adjust the clock to make the bed go back into place, put the lantern back and get into bed for Marguerite's next visit.

Part Three: Access The Storage Room

After Marge leaves this time, grab the lantern and move the bed again. There will be a note with a poem. This note is essentially telling you to put the paintings back up in a different order—pictured above. That's the third password symbol on that doll, a fig leaf. Put the paintings back where you found them!

Return to the side of the bed that you normally get out of and look on the floor to find another note with password clues—Snake, Fig Leaf, Apple. Use that on the Storage Room door to get inside.

Once inside the Storage Room, immediately look to the right and use your fork on the nail sticking out of the wardrobe to get Solid Fuel. Get out of the storage room and close the door behind you.

You probably know what to do now—and what will happen. Combine the Solid Fuel and Stove to be placed on top of the barrel beneath the wine bottle spiders. Light it with your lighter and anticipate the explosion that will, once again, attract Marguerite's attention.

Before you head back to bed, grab the corkscrew from the wine bottle, remove the stove from the barrel, put the painting and the lantern back and get back into bed! Wait for our maternal friend...

Part Four: Get The F**k Out Of The Bedroom

So, if this next part makes you want to sh*t yourself—that's okay. There's no turning back. Use the corkscrew on the cork in the lantern hook. You will get Lantern Hook A. Go into the Storage Room and remove Lantern Hook B from the wall. Then combine the two hooks to make an Iron Statuette.

There's a note in the coat on the coat rack next to where you found Lantern Hook B. It's from Zoe and she lets you know about the knife behind the dresser. Leave the storage room and shut the door so that you can access the knife. You'll need to crouch and squeeze up against the door.

Head back into the storage room and use the knife on the projector. This Shadow Puzzle is pretty straightforward. Use the Iron Statuette and the Fork to take care of its parts. This will unlock the bird cage with the Snake Key in it. Be sure to equip the knife before you leave the storage room!

Protip: Solve this shadow puzzle after using the bedside clock to reveal the door under the bed. Getting the key from the birdcage is Marguerite's trigger and you don't want to lose any time once she's in the room.

There will be a cutscene during which you will stab Marge and stun her for a bit. This gives you time to use the Snake Key on the door under the bed. Run down the stairs and through the passage to end the level.

Congratulations! You've survived. Enjoy your achievement and the long life ahead of you—we all know Clancy won't be so lucky...

How To Find All Of The Rats In The 'Resident Evil 7' Bedroom DLC

If you're interested in getting the most out of this filled segment, you can do a few extra steps to collect the rotting rats hidden around the room. Completing your search for the rats will earn you the Ratcatcher achievement/trophy.

  • Rat #1 - Near the barrel in the corner (where the wine and spiders are), there is a set of shutters on the floor propped up against the wall. The rat is behind the shutters. Crouching helps!
  • Rat #2 - After Marge brings you the food in the large pot, take a bite (lose some health) and examine the food after you're done vomiting. The rat will be there.
  • Rat #3 - After gaining access to the Supplies closet, you'll find this rat on top of a bookshelf. There's a flipped chair nearby for reference!

If you're still playing the main game or trying to earn all of the achievements and trophies, we've got some guides that can help you!
