If you've yet to become a member of YoRHa and join the fight against the robotic lifeforms that have claimed planet earth, I can hardly berate you. Nier: Automata was released weeks apart from Horizon: Zero Dawn, Mass Effect: Andromeda, Persona 5, Torment: Tides of Numenera and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, making it easy for some to overlook—but I feel like I should berate you nonetheless, dear gamer.

Nier: Automata is one of the finest games I've played, well... ever! The ideas packed into this moving narrative are impactful, refined and profoundly innovative—it features 26 endings, people (!) some of which can be triggered by simply walking away from key boss fights.

For those who've played it, you understand the sense of loss when it all comes to an end. But, thankfully, it seems like the game's DLC is continuing Nier's trend for the bizarre. Feast your eyes on one of the greatest boss battles in the history of the medium.

'Nier: Automata' DLC Introduces Square Enix CEO Boss Fight

Though Nier: Automata's DLC (entitled: 3C3C1D119440927) hasn't received a release date for the West, gameplay trailers are up showcasing some of the madness we can look forward to—namely a colosseum where we can fight powerful foes. But the most powerful foe of all is none other than Yosuke Matsuda. Here's how you fight him:

  • Step One: Talk with the Resistance Secretary and insist (ask her three times) that you want to fight "you-know-who." She'll eventually reply with this:

  • Step Two: Stop caring about immersion. Select "Immersion schmimmersion" twice and you'll be teleported to the middle of the colosseum, where you'll be greeted by this fellow:

Who is this well-tailored gentleman? Why, the man behind some of Japan's finest games. 'Tis the CEO of Square Enix, fully rendered in-game!

  • Step Three: FIGHT! The CEO is pretty tough, but not unbeatable. However he's soon joined by a good friend who'll ramp the difficulty up a bit.

Now you're fighting the CEO of Square Enix and the President of Platinum Games. Can Nier actually get any better? The answer: YES!

Step Four: DIE! At the end of the bout, the CEO-team unleash a barrage of projectiles at 2B in the form of... their heads. Immersion breaking hasn't been this good since the days of Metal Gear Solid! They'll eventually beat you because CEOs are the most powerful force in the world. Duh.

So yeah, if you haven't bought Nier: Automata, you simply must consider it. Stuff like this can happen at any moment—I watched a small group of robots act out Romeo and Juliet and slowly kill themselves on stage (it was a lot funnier than how I described it). Buy it. It's a masterpiece.

You can watch the whole fight below—the sound effects are really, really weird.
