It's hard to keep a secret these days, with datamining, YouTube videos and jerks like us determined to crack open every game and make a scramble out of every hidden secret and bit of information they can find, most easter eggs in #VideoGames don't last long.
The Mysterious Aliens Of 'Elite: Dangerous'
Players of #EliteDangerous, the crowdfunded competitor to the ambitious but trundling leviathan #StarCitizen, are no different. But this time, they're flummoxed, on the 6th of January, player DP Sayre, known in real life as Robert Bettig, stumbled upon first contact with a mysterious alien vessel.
The event was simultaneously awe-inspiring and terrifying, as Bettig was yanked out of hyperspace to find himself face-to-giant with an octo-tentacled leviathan. The alien ship scanned him, made some ominous noises and then fled, moving too fast for Bettig to catch up.
The Top Theories On How To Contact The Aliens
Since then, players all throughout the systems have been searching desperately for a way to recreate Bettig's experience. So far no one has figured out a 100% sure way to recreate the alien contact, though several have managed to stumble upon similar events. In the mean-time, fans have figured out a few things that might increase your chances.
The first, and most important factor, is that you must have been scanned by an Unknown Artefact at some point. From what player's have worked out, the more recent your scan, the more likely you are to get interdicted (pulled out of hyperspace).
Unconfirmed rumors also speculate that carrying an Unknown Artefact and Meta Alloys will further increase the odds. Be careful though, as getting interdicted by the mysterious aliens sometimes results in your Unknown Artefact getting removed from your hold.
Unknown Artefacts will show up on scanners as an Unidentified Signal Source with a threat rating of 4.1. They're exceedingly rare, but the Elite: Dangerous Wiki contains the locations where they're most commonly found, along with advice on how to capture one.
