There's a lot of great weapons in Dark Souls 3. One of the best things about the game is the sheer variety of choices you have in how you elect to fight and what you wield. Unlike some , almost anything is viable if you try. Well, almost anything. But just like on Orwell's animal farm, some weapons are more equal than others.

Where To Find The Best Weapons In 'Dark Souls 3'

Some of the most OP weapons in are very easy to find. The knight starts with the Broadsword, which can carry you through the game if you use it right. The Mercenary gets the Sellsword Twinblades, which are amazing weapons for a dexterity build. Others are crafted from the souls of bosses, which make them almost impossible to miss. A few of the best weapons though, are a bit harder to track down.

1. Witch's Locks

This underrated whip is arguably the best weapon for a Pyromancer build. It's great against the AI and even better in PVE, where few players know how to deal with its unusual moveset and devastating weapon art.

The Witch's Locks are cunningly hidden in The Grand Archives, from the main bonfire proceed through the map until you encounter the large pool of wax surrounded by several scholars. Turn right and enter a large and dark room full of cursed bookshelves. In the corner, hidden in the gloom, is a lever, pull it and a secret door will open to your left. The chest inside contains the Witch's Locks.

2. Onyx Blade

If you can't quite get the hang of the Witch's Locks, or you're looking for something that can poise through an attack or two, then look for the Onyx Blade. This weapon is another excellent choice for a pyromancer, especially as a secondary weapon for fire-resistant enemies, since it does dark damage instead of fire.

The Onyx Blade is found in the Ashes Of Ariandel. To obtain it, you'll have to kill Friede's bodyguard Sir Vilhelm when he attempts to kill you. You'll find him just past the Corvian Village, inside a building on top of the hill.

3. Carthus Curved Sword

The Carthus Curved Sword has become a PvP king in the Dark Souls meta, but it's equally good for PvE as well. Combined with Carthus Rouge, this weapon can melt through any boss that's vulnerable to bleed and its damage is fantastic even without.

The Carthus Curved Sword is dropped by the scimitar-wielding skeletons in the catacombs of Carthus. The best place to farm the sword is to spawn at the Catacombs of Carthus bonfire, from there, turn right and then left and you'll find two scimitar-wielding skeletons. Just watch out for the big skeleton ball along the way and remember to increase your item find for the best chance of a drop.

4. Follower Sabre

The Follower Sabre is another excellent PvP weapon, it's similar to the Carthus Curved Sword, but trades in bleed for even more base damage and an amazing weapon art. For a quality build (a build with both strength and dexterity) it's a fantastic choice.

Finding the Follower Sabre is complicated enough, so much so that it's difficult to really describe in text, so I'll let YouTube user Primera Espada show you in the video above.

5. Crow Quills

The Crow Quills are my personal favorite weapon, their moveset combines the best parts of the Estoc and their weapon art is great for pulling and harassment, plus, they're just so dang stylish. For a dexterity build, sharp infused Crow Quills have one of the highest attack ratings in the game.

The Crow Quills are in the Corvian Settlement area of the Ashes of Ariandel DLC. To find them, spawn at the Corvian Settlement bonfire and cross the bridge into the settlement. Immediately turn left and follow the path until you come across a small gap with two houses across it. Leap the gap and head for the ruined house on the right, there will be two barrels on a ledge, smash them, then back up and take a big running jump off the ledge. If you do it right you'll land on a small rocky plateau where your prize is waiting.

6. Astora Great Sword

Often overlooked, the Astora Great Sword is an underrated ultra greatsword for a variety of builds. It's the lightest ultra greatsword in the game and has amazing scaling when hollow or elementally infused. Combined with the Leo Ring, the thrusting attacks on the sword can do huge amounts of damage to reckless enemies.

The Astora Greatsword is found in the graveyard before the Cathedral of the Deep. Turn left as soon as you enter and follow the path up to a little cul-de-sac, where a hollow is kneeling in front of a large gravestone. At the base of the gravestone, you'll find the Astora Great Sword.

7. Uchitagana

An excellent beginner's weapon that'll give you a great boost in the early game and an all round excellent choice for Dexterity and Refined builds. The Uchitagana can be gained somewhat easily right at the beginning of the game. To the left of the entrance to Firelink shrine, there's a somewhat ragged looking fellow without pants standing in front of a locked door. To obtain the Uchitagana, you'll have to take him out.

At an early level, he may seem almost impossible to defeat, but he's easy to trick into falling off the cliff, just hide to the left of the stairway, in the little nook, he should attempt to jump off the ledge and land between you and the cliff. Just kick him or spam attacks until he falls off. Once he's plummeted to his doom, quit the game and reload to find his goodies waiting for you on the ground.

8. Astora Straight Sword

If you need an early boost but you're having trouble getting the Uchitagana, or just don't want to invest the stats in it, check out the Astora Straight Sword. This early weapon takes Raw infusions like a champ, outpacing almost every other weapon for damage in the early game.

To get the Astora straight sword, you should should follow the path from the second bonfire on the High Wall of Lothric, past the thieves, horrible transforming snake men, hollows and Lothric Knight with a spear until you enter onto a raised walkway that surrounds a large room full of hollows of various kinds.

Turn right and smash the debris to cross to the other side of the room, then drop down to the lower walkway, your sword will be waiting for you in a chest beside you. This is also a great spot to snipe some of the hollows and even the odds.
