You waited out the two weeks of Watch Dogs 2 on PS4 and finally boot up the game, and you get an error. It's your worst nightmare come true.

But fear not, despite the fact that many PC users of Watch Dogs 2 are having issues, there are a few fixes you can do to solve your problems. Here are some quick fixes to all your crash issues:

1. Make Sure You Can Actually Run The Game

Before I go into some techincal fixes, its a great idea to make sure you can actually play the game. Watch Dogs 2 is a very graphically intense game, and has some stiff system requirements:

  • Supported OS – (64-bit versions only): Windows 7 SP1, Windows 8.1, Windows 10
  • Processor: Intel Core i5 2400S @ 2.5 GHz | AMD FX 6120 @ 3.5 GHz
  • RAM: 6GB
  • Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 (2GB) | AMD Radeon HD 7870 (2GB) or better
  • Hard Disk Space: 50 GB

  • Supported OS – (64-bit versions only): Windows 7 SP1, Windows 8.1, Windows 10
  • Processor: Intel Core i5 3470 @ 3.2GHz | AMD FX 8120 @ 3.9 GHz
  • RAM: 8GB
  • Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 (3GB) | NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 (4GB) | NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 (3GB) or better | AMD Radeon R9 290 (4GB) or better
  • Hard Disk Space: 50 GB

Note: If you missed it, there is no Mac OSX or Linux version of the game. Sorry folks!

If your computer is up to the task and you're still having problems, then read on.

2. Update Your Graphics Card Drivers

The biggest source of crashing and performance issues is out of date graphics card drivers. Hardware developers tend to put out new drivers right before major game launches, so even if you update fairly regularly, its not uncommon to miss an important update.

You might have automatic installation software on your computer, but if not there are direct places to get your drivers:

3. Verify Game Cache Integrity In Steam

While this isn't Watch Dogs 2, this is an easy gif showing how to verify your cache integrity.

A number of crashes can come because of Steam. Files can sometimes get corrupted, and there are a bunch of other issues that can sometimes arise. But really it's simple:

  • Right-click on Watch Dogs 2 in Steam and select "Properties" from the menu
  • Select the "Local Files" tab
  • Click "Verify integrity of game cache"

Easy and done! This takes a few minutes sometimes, but it will often fix a number of bugs and crashes.

4. Check for Windows Updates

This is a pretty simple fix, but you would be amazed at how often Windows Update is out of date and responsible for performance problems in games.

  • If you have Windows 7, first make sure you have the Windows 7 Service Pack 1 from the Windows Support site.
  • Once you do (or if you know you do), open up the Start menu and go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update, and then click "Check for Updates."

6. Make Sure You Have Visual C++ Redistributable 2010

This is supposed to be automatic upon installing Steam, but sometimes problems happen and future hackers are missing the file without realizing it.

You can also go download the Redistributable package from Microsoft's Support site. The install is pretty quick and will get you back to the action quick

7. Turn Down Your graphics Settings

Even though we all put a lot of hard work into our computers, sometimes they just aren't up to the task. If you're graphics card isn't top end, you might want to turn your graphics down. It can help reduce strain on your computer and cut down on crashes.

8. Follow 'Watch Dogs 2' And UbiSoft on Twitter

Sometimes there are emerging issues that come up because of bugs in the game. Devs are usually in tune with these types of issues and might have support for you.
