In late game Civilization 6, it becomes a painful chore to manage all your units, especially with unit auto cycle constantly selecting a different unit than you want.

It's infuriating. Especially when you're trying to manage huge numbers of units from your army, armada, and clergy.

In past Civ games, like Civilization 5, this wasn't an issue – in Civilization 6, it's awful and there's no menu option to turn the feature off. But, with a little digging in the code, we can turn off cycling outside of the game.

Here's how to turn off unit cycling:

  • Head to your out-of-game files
  • Navigate to Documents>My Games>Sid Meier's Civilization VI>User Options.txt
  • Open "User Options.txt"
  • Find the line ";Does the selection auto cycle to the next available unit? (0 = no, 1 = yes) AutoUnitCycle 1"
  • Change the "AutoUnitCycle 1" to "AutoUnitCycle 0"

  • Save the file
  • Reboot Civilization 6

Now, your units should not auto cycle! Enjoy!
