Playstation's PSX event kicked off with an intriguing trailer for a new standalone chapter in the world of Naughty Dog's Uncharted series. After being told that Uncharted 4: A Thief's End would be the last adventure for serial spelunker and beloved protagonist Nathan Drake, fans were no doubt pleasantly surprised by the announcement (although there is also an Uncharted film being made).
Here's Naughty Dog's gameplay trailer for Uncharted: The Lost Legacy DLC:
What We Know About Uncharted: The Lost Legacy
Chloe Frazer's dramatic return
The entire eight-minute-long trailer is full of suspense, withholding the identity of the woman whose face is concealed by a niqab. The eventual identity reveal creates a whole load of new questions.
Chloe Frazer was first introduced to us in Uncharted 2: Among Thieves and stuck around for the third installment of the game too before being absent in the latest Uncharted game.
Perhaps Naughty Dog didn't want her character to cause problems for the Drake family due to Nathan and Chloe's romantic past, although those who have played the fourth game know that Nathan needs no help in giving his wife Elena more hassle than she needs.
It'll be great to see what she's been up to while Nathan's been settling down and dealing with his brother, offering an alternate perspective on events.
Nadine Ross is also back
If you're unsure about Nadine returning as a protagonist then you've clearly played Uncharted 4. In it, her company 'Shoreline' is hired by Rafe 'Ratbag' Adler (Ok, I gave him that nickname — it's not official... yet) to spend every waking moment shooting at you. This combined with her beating Nate Drake up a few times doesn't lead to the fans being completely trusting of her, but she was a great character and people are very much glad to see her again.
Set some time after Uncharted 4, The Lost Legacy sees Chloe enlisting the help of this ruthless mercenary to recover a legendary Indian artifact, the 'Tusk Of Ganesha'.
Quite why Nadine assists Chloe is a mystery as of yet. She seems like a take-no-prisoners kind of gal and Chloe has a reputation for betraying those close to her now and then. We'll have to wait and see.
This Isn't Your Standard DLC Update
Although Naughty Dog initially set out to create single player DLC for Uncharted 4, they quickly realized that they needed more time for them to be satisfied with the storyline.
This standalone experience is more ambitious than the studio's previous story-focused update, The Last Of Us: Left Behind:
"Longer than 'Left Behind', shorter than Uncharted 4." — Kurt Margenau (Game Director, Naughty Dog)
A very interesting parallel:
I know, I know, they're not the same. But still suspicious if you ask me...
