Sports games seem so easy on the surface don't they? All that fun with none of the hassle. No sweat, no exhaustion, and you can switch to something else as easily as changing a disc or picking an option in the menu! Well apparently, things are a bit harder going for the poor Mario Sports crew, at least according to one bizarre Japanese energy drink ad.
See The Hell That The Mario Crew Experiences When You Play 'Mario Sports Superstars'
The Japanese company Suntory, probably best known in the West for being the company that hires Bill Murray to advertise Whisky in Lost in Translation, has released a new ad, featuring #Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach and Toad in the world of Mario Sports Superstars.
The ad, which is for Dekavita C, an energy drink, gives us a hilarious glimpse into the stressful and frantic lives of the Mario Sports Superstars crew as they race back and forth from #sports event to sports event, depending on the whim of the young woman playing the game on her #3DS—even a pause doesn't offer much of a break for poor Luigi, who gets stuck halfway in the air kicking a soccer ball.
This isn't the first time the Mario crew have engaged in some bizarre advertising tie-in with a new game either. Mario Kart 8 famously featured some free DLC that replaced the karts with Mercedes GLA cars, which came with some very odd and funny ads that gave us creepily buff Mario.
It remains to be seen what kind of ridiculous brand partnership we might see for Mario Odyssey. Maybe Mario can skip around New Donk City by calling an Uber, or buy fresh, organic 1-up mushrooms at the local Whole Foods.
