Just like Mario and Luigi, we've seen Link leave the single-name domain of video games. No longer will Link be able to hang out with Kirby and Pit, instead the hero will be ousted and sent to Mario Mario and Luigi Mario in the stupid-name kingdom.
During a recent interview with Game Informer, Link's last name was revealed
The Legend of Link Link: A Tell-All Biography
Granted, it was meant to be a quick fire Q&A (though, not sure how quick that can be with a translator), but all Shigeru Miyamoto had to say was "Link doesn't have one" and leave it at that.
Instead Miyamoto tells us with a chuckle that Link's full name is simply Link Link, probably laughing at all the fans he may upset with that decision.
He then states (to the apparent surprise of Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma) that Link is not even human, though later in the interview he says Link is from Earth.
He doubled down on the 'shall we make some Zelda fans mad?' vibe by talking about Paper Zelda and saying "We're working on it."
The entire interview is pretty light hearted so take all the information with a ton of salt, but it's nice to know that the company are aware that fans might like to see games like Paper Zelda come out in the future.
This all being said, the pair do satisfy fans with arguably the best part of the relatively short interview with the mention of fan-favorite Zelda character Tingle.
The interviewer asks if Tingle is happy, to which Aonuma replies "Yes, always." and Miyamoto follows up with "The developers love him."
Of course they do, Miyamoto. Tingle is the best character in the entire series!
