It's been five years since the last #MassEffect game. Since then we've made enormous leaps in terms of technology and game design, everything from the stunning visuals with games like #HorizonZeroDawn or #BreathOfTheWild to the innovation of the Switch. With the jump in tech over the last five years something needs to be said about Mass Effect Andromeda's hilariously bad animations.
Mass Effect Andromeda has released early for EA/Origins Access subscribers and players who have begun to play the first ten hours cannot stop posting gifs, pics, and clips of the game's poor animations.
You can check out a clip from YouTuber "xLentalis" below where he compares the facial animations of the original Mass Effect to Andromeda and exclaims the original actually looks better; I concur. He also draws comparisons between Andromeda and Witcher III – because, y'know, every game still needs to be compared to Witcher III, even in 2017.
Considering the quality of the animations, cancellation of the multiplayer beta, negative reception about Andromeda's first few hours, the poor reception of Mass Effect 3's ending, and the fact that Publisher EA isn't held in the highest esteem, there is cause for concern.
Bioware Will "Improve It"
#Bioware General Manager, Aaryn Flynn has taken to Twitter to let players know they're aware of the problem.
Kinda makes you wonder; for a game that suffered numerous delays, how did such a bug make its way into the final game? I'm not sure if we're supposed to be laughing at the bug or the development at this point. Somehow I feel inclined to blame #EA.
For Now Enjoy The Ridiculousness
Is she in pain? Is she smiling? Does she have constipation? I cannot tell what this face is doing.
This just speaks for itself.
"My face is tired", she said. Not only is the animation bad, but the dialog and voice acting is somewhat awkward too. I know that BioWare has set a very high bar for themselves given their success across several franchises, but this is alarming, and well below their quality bar.
Horrifying. I can only imagine what the facial animations look like when you finally start romancing aliens.
Mass Effect Andromeda releases March 21st for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Will you be making the journey to Andromeda?
