It's that time of year again! We're literally a few weeks worth of sleeps away from E3 2017. And with a new and successful Nintendo console out in the wild, you can expect there to be some major surprises on hand for the Nintendo Switch!
But what could the big N be lugging up to its Treehouse this year? Will Pokémon Stars finally be unveiled? How about some Metroid Prime 4? Who can say! But for the sake of our sanity, come with me as I speculate wildly over what we probably will, probably might and probably won't see from Ninty at #E32017.
Nintendo & E3 - What We'll Probably See
Rumor surrounding Pokémon's first outing on the Switch has been rolling around on the web since Sun and Moon's much hyped release last November. But then chatter fell silent, until a gaggle of eagle-eyed gamers caught wind of Nintendo's recent removal of Pokémon reveal videos on YouTube. Though this literally could just be the big N clearing out old news. But naturally the findings led Pokéfans to speculate on what could be Stars' big reveal.
And when else is there a better time to reveal what could be one of 2017's biggest games than around the date of the gaming industry's biggest show?
Super Smash Bros.
Though it is vastly unsurprising news, a recent leak over at 4chan has suggested that a Smash Bros. title is in the works for Nintendo Switch. The brawler, which is said to be a port of the Wii U's iteration, will naturally have updated graphics and hopefully add an updated roster. But details are pretty thin on the ground with it being a leak and all.
Has Nintendo's big surprise been ruined by the impatient? I guess we'll have to wait and see. But, on that note, here are some other images from the purported Smash Bros. Switch leak.
Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle
Who asked for this? Was it you? I I sure as heck don't remember asking for a crossover of Nintendo's most faithful of mascots and... Rayman's raving rabbids? But hey, apparently it's on its way to stores as according to the leaky old ship that is the internet. Will we be expecting the brilliant Aisha Tyler (if she's returning) and the Ubisoft stage to be greeted by the presence of Miyamoto himself? We can only hope!
Super Mario Odyssey
So what we already know regarding Super Mario's impending Odyssey into our Switches is gaming's mustachioed hero now has a powerful and sentient hat which can be used as a weapon or a platform. He's having a breather from the Mushroom Kingdom and taken up shop in NYC-proxy New Donk City and Super Mario Odyssey has the potential to be the best Mario title since Super Mario Galaxy 2.
But with a release date loosely scheduled for the end of 2017, I think we can be fairly sure the plumber with the blue dungarees will be backflipping into a Nintendo Direct this month.
Fire Emblem Warriors
There's been a fair amount of buzz surrounding the Fire Emblem series' step up to Switchdom after the tease of a trailer released back in January. What we know so far is Koei Techmo's musou (hack and slash) version of the hit RPG will see the return of some very familiar faces...
Returning to the fray will be Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light's Marth...
And Fire Emblem: Awakenings' Chrom...
Alongside newcomers Sion...
Crafted in the style of Koei Techmo's masterful Hyrule Warriors, you can pretty much expect this to be one of the Switch's (and New 3DS') hottest titles. So it's safe to expect we'll garner more info around E3! Or at least hope.
Nintendo & E3 - What I'd Love To See
F-Zero On Switch
This will be the last time I mention F-Zero in an Nintendo-orientated E3 post, because my emotions can't handle the longing. At least we have Mute City and Big Blue on Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, right? But, man, F-Zero on the Switch? I mean if Thumper and Fast RMX are floating about on Nintendo eShop...
The Original Metroid Trilogy On One Cart
Remastered to 720p. Need I say more? Just... just give me Super Metroid. I'm old and tired.
Metroid Prime 4
Whether it's video game composer Alexander Brandon teasing his Facebook fans with a mention of his work with Retro Studios — the Metroid Prime trilogy devs — or the studio cheekily tweeting images of fine meats being grilled in reply to an eager tweeter (is it prime rib though?), it's about time for a new Metroid game. Don't you think? Especially one in first-person...
Though if the game turns out to be Federation Force 2, I will fly into the sun.
Sim City On Switch
Any of you here remember the summer of '91? When the Super NES was released to a crazed frenzy? Do you remember Sim City was one of its launch titles? Don't worry I didn't either until I researched it, but I would love to have this back on a Ninty console. Building my own urban cityscapes whilst Switchin' it up around the globe? Yeah, go on then! Throw in the chance to redevelop the Mushroom Kingdom whilst you're at it.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe hasn't done a bad job for itself, has it? Being the fastest selling Mario Kart title of all time, and sitting atop numerous gaming charts for weeks in a row. So what about some of the Wii U's other great titles, like The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess or The Wonderful 101? I wouldn't mind seeing Wii Sports pop up either. But maybe that's just me.
Super Mario Maker On Switch
To be honest now, if this doesn't come to pass, it'll be clear that Nintendo really couldn't give two damns about us. Imagine being able to design your own Mario stages using elements from Super Mario Bros. right up to Super Mario Galaxy...
And finally how about some hard- and software reveals in the shape of...
The Patch To End All Patches
Menu music! The ability to choose where to save your games! Transfer saves from Switch to Switch! External HDD support! Cloud saving! Come on, Nintendo!
More Info Regarding Switch's Online Service
'Cause that'd be nice! How much will it cost? And why is my gift only a 20/30 year old SNES and NES game? For only a month? Have you not earned enough money from other thirty- and fortysomethings rebuying old titles on every Nintendo console since GameCube?
And finally, Netflix, Hulu, HBO Go, BBC iPlayer, YouTube, Spotify...? Yes we may have access to these apps and websites across every single piece of tech that has or has the ability to connect to a screen. But I want to binge season five of House of Cards with my Switch resting on my chest. Please?
What are you expecting to see from Nintendo this E3?
