Toot toot! Please alight here to grab a seat on the rumor train – the hype train is a little overstocked for my liking – because it seems as if the Nintendo NX (or the console formerly known as) may have an official name, courtesy of a supposed leak. And you know what...? It may not be as cool as NX, but it sure makes a lot of sense.
Nintendo's new console to be called the Duo?
Recently posted to the NX subreddit, the Nintendo Duo was revealed on a cheekily snapped poster – or pamphlet – at a supposed software partner briefing.
If this indeed is true, and not some damn fine photoshopping, the console's name conforms to Nintendo's often evocative naming policy. After all, the console is a dual-purpose device built for both the handheld and home markets.
Exactly What It Says On The Tin
Nintendo's last handheld console, the 3DS, was named so because it's a dual screen console that offers us the chance to play games in stereoscopic 3D.
The Wii looked to emphasise the coming together of people and generations of all ages under its niche umbrella. You know... we. And the iis even look like Wiimotes!
Wii U looked to venture beyond that with the GamePad and having one person going up against us, or we (Wii). I guess that was the reasoning behind that?
The GameCube's name and logo was fairly self-explanatory...
And Nintendo 64 earned its title because of its 64-bit processor...
But Pinch Of Salt, People
Because, as awesome as it would have been to have caught the fresh breeze of NX leaks, the air has festered and the rumor has been seemingly debunked. Nintendo Hall's Twitter feed showed just how easy it is to produce a doctored image like the one "leaked" above:
I thought there was something a little fishy about that name...
