The NES mini has been discontinued across the globe. Nintendo won't be producing any more of the highly sought-after consoles and for those who missed out on their compact delights, eBay price abusers await. It seemed like such a strange move on the big N's part—why discontinue something when the world wanted so much more of it? Well, it seems we have our answer.

Reports Suggest Nintendo To Launch SNES Mini Later This Year

But smaller.
But smaller.

Sources close to Eurogamer have revealed 's plans to launch yet another mini console on a hungry market in late 2017. In an article published earlier today, they stated:

Nintendo will follow up its smash hit NES microconsole with a mini version of the SNES, sources close to the company have confirmed to Eurogamer.

Their sources went on to confirm that production of devices has been underway for some time and was actually scheduled to take place following the release of the NES mini. Nintendo didn't account for the success of the NES mini—that much is abundantly clear—and never thought of it as a permanent product, merely an awesome Christmas gift for 2016. Eurogamer's sources also revealed that one of the major reasons for the killing off of the NES mini was due to production schedules:

[The NES mini's] production run could not be extended further - as SNES mini was slated for production instead.

We sincerely hope that Nintendo learns from its mistakes and increases the production of SNES mini units tenfold! The console is due to arrive in time for Christmas of this year, and, if it follows in the footsteps of its predecessor, will only be available in limited supply for a limited period of time. But what can we expect from it?

Nintendo's Super Nintendo Entertainment System boasted a spectacular lineup of genre-defining games. Here are some of the highlights we could potentially be playing later this year!
