The PS4 Pro is the latest console to come out of Sony, with HDR compatibility and 4K gameplay as standard, the PS4 Pro is by far the most powerful console Sony have ever made.
The PS4 Pro is Sony’s mid-cycle console and is representative of a giant leap within this gaming generation. The unit is set for release on November 10, and blurs the lines between current and next gen gaming, adapting to the 4K and VR markets that are set to expand in the coming years.
But, will we have time to even unpack the PS4 Pro from the box before Sony hit us with their next generation machine, the PlayStation 5?
PlayStation 5 already in development?
According to a report from Damien Thong, the analyst who accurately predicted the release of the Playstation Slim and Pro, the PlayStation 5 is actually set for a late 2018 release. Meaning that Sony are already working on the next console.
It was the The Wall Street Journal’s Takashi Mochizuki, who brought this report to our attention.
This has got to be too soon, surely? A next gen machine in just two years time with the mid-cycle unit not even on sale yet? This is a bold prediction from our analyst.
If this was indeed the case, this would mean that the PS4 Pro would have a life cycle of just two years, which makes no sense for either the developer or consumer.
With Microsoft yet to unveil their mid-cycle console (Xbox Scorpio) and the VR/AR markets set to expand ever bigger, Sony are best to hang fire on any development until we know what direction the industry is going in. But that's just me.
Nintendo NX reveal at Tokyo Games Show?
Thong also has big news regarding the Nintendo NX reveal. The industry expert has stated that it is highly likely that Nintendo intend to reveal the NX at the Tokyo Games show next week (September 15 – 18).
It is important to remember that these are just predictions, regardless how scarily accurate this man is.
Although, Nintendo do need to get a move on in revealing the NX considering the initial release date is rumoured for March 2017.
