The #PokemonSunMoon games were released with a bang only a few days ago, introducing players to new characters, new features and tonnes of new Pokémon. Since then, the anime series linked with the game, which is set to be released on Disney XD in December, has also been getting a lot of attention.
Up until now, with there only being Japanese trailers available, we could only really speculate about what this new series would be like for Western audiences. However, an English trailer has finally been released and it not only looks awesome, but also, sticking to true #Pokemon style, pretty damn wacky!
The Pokémon Sun And Moon Anime: A Full Breakdown Of The Most Interesting Details
The Sun & Moon series, the sixth series of the Pokémon anime, is set in Alola, a completely new region that looks like an absolute paradise. As you can see above, the islands that make up the Alola region are basking in sunshine and surrounded by crystal clear ocean. This setting is definitely more vibrant and colorful than anything we have seen before in Pokémon, highlighting a vibrant new direction for the series.
The trailer also shows Ash running into trouble, as per usual. After escaping from a rampaging Bewbear—a crazed wild bear like Pokémon—Ash is confronted with one of the Tapu Koko. Apparently, this giant flying deity is meant to be a guardian of its island. All I can say is that, from its initial appearance, I wouldn't want to run into one in the middle of the woods.
"This is Pokémon School, where Pokémon and students all study together."
One of the important new features of the series is, of course, the Pokémon school. Here, as shown above, Ash enrolls and is faced with numerous challenges as he learns about all the new Pokémon. With some intense races, battles and encounters on the cards, we are expecting the school to be an interesting source of adventures for Ash in this coming series.
"If you beat us, maybe we'll let you walk away."
It wouldn't be Pokémon without a new set of villains for Ash to have to confront. In the trailer we can see Team Skull, a barbarous group of ruffians infamous in the region, facing off with Ash and Pikachu. Team Skull are mostly made up of the Grunts, which are basically the foot soldiers of the group. At the top though, there is Gladion, Plumeria and the merciless Boss, Guzma.
Since the trailer's release there has also been a lot of discussion in the community about the new art style in Sun & Moon. To the untrained eye, the differences are not so clear. But, if you look closely, then you can see that Ash's face is made up of softer lines, bigger eyes and an all round more youthful appearance. Whether this is good or bad, the Pokémon community is yet to decide.
Finally, we also get to see Ash and Pikachu in fine form, taking the battle straight to the enemy. It is clear they have learnt some pretty powerful new moves. These forces, called Z-Moves, can only be used if the trainer and the Pokémon are in full sync with each other. Once in sync, the pair can then release a barrage of explosive forces powerful enough to leave a whopping great crater in the island.
