You know the way Portal and its sequel are, like, the best games Valve has ever made? Well this universe is getting its own movie, along with that other franchise. Ehh... Half-Life, that's it.

The films have been in development for a while, and at a recent red carpet event, IGN stopped Mr. J. J. Abrams to have a chat about GAMES! Specifically how they'll make it to the big screen. And the news was damn good, friends.

J. J. Abrams, Is That A Portal Movie Announcement I Hear?

After being asked about Valve's movie projects, J. J. Abrams replied that the two films are "very much still in development."

We have a meeting coming up next week with Valve, we’re very active, I’m hoping that there will be a Portal announcement fairly soon.

Imagine having a meeting with Valve! Awesome. J. J. Abrams is a big fan of the Portal and Half-Life games and he seems to be terribly excited to be working on the projects. Why wouldn't he be? He gets to bring GLaDOS to the screen!

Abrams elaborated on the direction of the Portal film by saying,

We are having some really interesting discussions with writers, many of whom...once you said you’re doing a movie or show about a specific thing that is a known quantity you start to find people who are rabid about these things. As someone who loves playing Half Life and Portal, what’s the movie of this, it’s incredible when you talk to someone who just ‘gets’ it, it’s like, oh my god, it’s really the seed for this incredible tree you’re growing.

I'ma dress up as a companion cube for the screening. Who's with me?!

Could This Be the Redeeming Video Game Movie?

The Assassin's Creed movie is set to arrive in theaters this December, starring Michael Fassbender, Jeremy Irons, Brendan Gleeson and Mario Cotillard. We have a lot of hope for it to be the first good gaming movie in history, 'cause lord knows the other ones are all garbage. All of them.

But what kind of hope do we have for Portal? Can you really see this universe transferring well to the big screen? I mean, Portal has some hilarious lines and great characters, but it's almost all about conquering those devious puzzle designs. Can Hollywood do these beautiful games justice? Let us know what you think in the comments below!

Are you excited for the Portal movie?
