It seems that a faithful Star Wars fan has done something glorious for the rest of us - datamined the closed alpha game code for Star Wars Battlefront 2, and the results are actually rather telling when you think about it. Redditor uninspired_zebra dropped a list of characters currently on the menu screen, and it's quite interesting when you break it down by their affiliation.
We know that more characters will likely be available via free DLCs for Star Wars Battlefront 2, but if EA is going to be EA then you'd imagine that they would prefer for the scales to be balanced and there is a particularly empty slot on the rebel side.
Who Could Join The Rebel Scum?
With the game set to tell a completely original story, there are so many possibilities. The unlisted spot could be any number of characters within the Star Wars universe, but most believe that the role will fall to Finn who has already been confirmed in a DLC pack. Yet a more interesting thought is that the single-player campaign character, Iden Versio, is destined to join the rebellion.
Now, this is 100% speculation, but if it's true then it's a major spoiler for the campaign to know that Iden would defect to the rebellion. With Star Wars Battlefront 2 set to tell a single-player story that revolves around the Empire's side of the battle, it would be a major twist to watch a character like Versio defect. Considering that based on the lore, she trained her entire life to server the Galactic Empire, eventually rising to the rank of 2nd Lieutenant and was given command of the Inferno Squad.
EA has stated that the single-player campaign will follow Versio, an imperial soldier with a noble heart, so it would be an interesting story to play through. Battlefront 2 is set to bridge the gap between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens, so the possibilities are seemingly limitless for EA to deliver a cinema-caliber story without worrying about keeping too close to the films already developed.
What do you think? Will Iden leave the Empire for the Rebel Alliance? Or will her story play a bigger role in the development of the Knight's of Ren and Snoke's revival of the Dark Side of the Force?
