Winter is well and truly upon us, and with the year of 2016 drawing ever closer to its (highly anticipated) end, it's time for us to look back at a year of great games and celebrate the cream of the crop. Whether that's #PokemonSunMoon with its cool secrets or #FinalFantasyXV, which leaks from players who got the game early detail some amazing stuff, we'll soon find out.
However, while we wait for the winner to be crowned—and for #MassEffectAndromeda to make an appearance at the Game Awards—Steam have launched their own Steam Awards for all of us to take part in. For the first time ever, users can nominate games in a number of categories or create their own to decide on the best of the best.
What are the Steam Award categories?
- The “Test of Time” Award
- The “I'm Not Crying, There's Something In My Eye” Award
- The “Just 5 More Minutes” Award
- The “Whoooaaaaaaa, dude!” Award
- The “Villain Most In Need Of A Hug” Award
- The “Game Within A Game” Award
- The “I Thought This Game Was Cool Before It Won An Award” Award
- The “Best Use Of A Farm Animal” Award
- The “We Didn’t Think Of Everything” Award
The "We Didn't Think Of Everything" award is a user created category which will be ultimately decided by the Selection Committee, meaning any game can be nominated for anything. Some people are obviously taking advantage of this opportunity!
Best Unconventional Uses of the Steam Awards
Rather than celebrating the gaming successes of 2016, some gamers have decided to highlight some of the year's most spectacular failures. Here are a few of our favourites!
Half-Life 2: Episode 2 for 'Game That Deserves a Sequel' award
And that was just the short title
Dota 2 for the 'Abusive Spouse' award!
Alien Isolation for 'Villain Most In Need of a Hug'
And lastly in the divisive opinion category
No Man's Sky nominated for 'Biggest Lie of the Year'
Counter Strike: Global Offensive nominated for 'Most Hackers in a Single Server'
Dishonoured 2 nominated for 'Shitty PC Port'
Rust nominated for 'Easiest way to raise sodium levels'
It's not just the custom categories gamers are having fun with either:
Additionally, since we here at Now Loading don't want to be left out, we'll throw our own category suggestion into the ring: 'The Video Games That Look NOTHING Like Their Trailers Award'.
Feel free to nominate any of the offenders in the above video.
