We all love a good secret. Something mysterious to search out, dig up and discover. There's a lot of neat stuff hidden away in , sometimes it's a series continuity shout out, sometimes a classic movie reference.

Sometimes, it's just plain adorable and funny.

The Cutest And Funniest Easter Eggs In Video Games

Here's our pick of the most heart-warming, silly and smile-worthy easter eggs in games over the years.

1. Wesker's Crush - 'Resident Evil 2'

In 2, you can find Wesker's desk in the S.T.A.R.S. office. It appears someone's already ransacked the desk and there's nothing to find, but if you search it 50 times in a row, you'll find an undeveloped roll of film.

Take the film to the dark room and use it on the equipment, and you'll find what was stored on the film. A picture of Rebecca Chambers in a skimpy basketball outfit. Guess Wesker had a thing for her. Maybe that's why Billy vanished from the series.

The Easter Egg got a shout out in the Resident Evil 0 HD remaster, where Rebecca got the basketball outfit as an unlockable costume, as well as a 'Team Wesker' outfit. Presumably what she'd be wearing if he had his choice.

2. Slippy Slidey Penguins - 'Mario 64'

This one's a small one, but super adorable. Remember the big momma penguin and her little babies from the Cool Cool Mountain level of ? Well apparently doing a slide attack near them causes the little baby penguins to mimic Mario's behavior. It's cute they're trying to learn, but given Mario's track record they might want to pick a different role model.

3. Mitten's Jounal - 'Gone Home'

There's a lot of Journal Entries to find in if you search hard enough. For the most part, they're written by your sister Sam, chronicling her confusing feelings about her newly discovered sexual orientation, her budding relationship and her parent's strained marriage.

It turns out Sam isn't the only journal writer in the house though. If you knock a little purple basketball out of the rafters in the garage of the house, then shoot it through the hoop in Sam's room, the house will be plunged into darkness.

A TV will come on, showing pictures of cats, and you'll hear a chorus of Kitties meowing the touching background music that usually accompanies Sam's journal entries. Over the top of the meowing chorus, Sam's voice will recite an entry from Mitten's journal. Since mitten is a cat, this consists entirely of meows.

4. An Unlikely Love - 'Halo: Combat Evolved'

Beating the original Halo: Combat Evolved on Legendary unlocks an... interesting addition to the ending. Among the normal ending cinematics, the camera will cut to Johnson wrestling with a Covenant Elite for his assault rifle.

The ground begins to shake as the pillar of autumn detonates in the background, and the two stop fighting. Johnson opens his arms wide. "This is it baby," he tells the Elite, "hold me." The two embrace as the end approaches.

Funnily enough, the ending is referenced in the sequel, when a character named 'Guns' asks Johnson if he's ever going to reveal how he got off the ring. Johnson replies, embarrassed, "Sorry Guns, that's classified."

5. A Fowl Assassin - 'Assassin's Creed 3'

While hanging out at the Davenport homestead, Connor can encounter a pretty unlikely ally. Head to the back wall near the porch, take cover and whistle. If you do it right, a turkey will suddenly show up.

Target your new avian friend and input the classic Konami code of up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A. On the Playstation replace B and A with Circle and X respectively. The turkey will suddenly reveal his true allegiance by donning an adorable little assassin's hood. I guess anything really is permitted.

6. Going Up, Coming Up - 'Crysis 2'

If you're feeling a bit down in the dumps while playing , then head over to the mission 'Dead Man Walking' to take a little party break.

After blowing up the chopper and taking the elevator to the roof, go round the corner and find a power box. There won't be a prompt, but if you hit the interact button you should activate it. Head back to the elevator you arrived in, then continue on to find a second elevator. Access the now working button to call the elevator, as well as some rad dudes who are up for a good time.
