Do you love pixelated blood spewing all over your monitor?

Well, maybe you should consider talking to someone. However, if you're not interested in confronting those inner demons why not try some of these brutally awesome and gory 2D indie games to feed that demonic soul of yours?

Get ready to verify your birthday with my top picks of brutal 2D indie games.

1. Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number

Developer: Dennaton Games

Publisher: Devolver Digital

Platform(s): PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, Android, Windows, Linux, Mac

Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number is an explosive sequel and gory conclusion to the original Hotline Miami. The game jumps between various perspectives, weaving the character's stories together for a surprising finish.

Play this game and you'll be equipped with new masks to determine your character's special ability, a pumping wave of synths and beats from an original soundtrack, and a community map-making feature on Steam. It will leave you with plenty of reasons to revisit this franchise for high scores, achievements and community-produced content.

2. Butcher

Developer: Transhuman Design

Publisher: Transhuman Design

Platform: Windows, Linux, Mac

Is it too much of a generalization to say Butcher is sort of like Doom in reverse? Probably, but I think it's clear Transhuman Design is taking cues and tipping some hats to the Doom and Quake franchises. Prepare for some high-stakes run-and-gun platforming in Butcher. Why? Because you've been sent to Earth to "exterminate them all," that's why. Now get to work!

3. Not a Hero

Developer: Roll 7

Publisher: Devolver Digital

Platform(s): PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Android, Windows, Linux, Mac

I'm going to start off by saying that Not a Hero made me laugh out loud more than any other game I played last year. Seriously, this game is brilliant. Not only was the gameplay unadulterated fun, but pounding milkshakes post-mission with Mayor Bunnylord was my fondest memory of the game.

Not a Hero also revitalized the completionist inside me. The achievements were realistic and within reach, which made me want to conquer every aspect of this game. I'd like to think I made my money back and then some. So get your campaigning boots on and help Mayor Bunnylord get another term in office!

4. Deadbolt

Developer: Hopoo Games, LLC

Publisher: Hopoo Games, LLC

Platform(s): Windows, Linux, Mac

Deadbolt is no exception to the other challenging games on this list, but it delivers the bloodbath in a different way. You'll be given the option to stealthily slay your way through zombies and vampires, call on your inner Bruce Willis and go in guns blazing, or create an espionage/terminator salad. It's really up to you. Go ahead, travel through a toilet and blow a hole through a zombie's rear end and tell me you're not having fun.

5. Party Hard

Developer: Pinokl Games, Kverta

Publisher: tinyBuild

Platform(s): Windows, Linux, Mac

You're tired and weak, tossing and turning all night because your neighbors have a better social life than you do. Nothing makes sense and your world is beginning to tilt. The only rational thing is to kill them all!

Okay, pump the breaks. Maybe you should just fire up Party Hard? There's really not much else to tell you except that you can live out that sadistic fantasy of yours with zero consequences.

6. Slain: Back from Hell

Developer: Andrew Gilmour

Publisher: Digerati Distribution

Platform(s): PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Windows, Linux, Mac

I hope you're a metalhead, because you'll be shredding both riffs and flesh in Slain: Back from Hell.

Imagine if Castlevania starred a resurrected warrior version of Nathan Explosion from Dethklok instead of a Belmont. In this game, you'll enjoy a brutal soundtrack along with hellish enemies.

If you happen to follow the developer himself, Andrew Gilmour on Twitter, you'll also see he's got something new up his sleeve for this game. Imagine massive space worms and automatic weapons. Do I have your attention? Chugga chug chug chugga chugga chug chug!
