THE NINTENDO SWITCH WAS (FINALLY) ANNOUNCED! And it looks absolutely fantastic! One thing I noticed in the trailer, though, specifically when they were playing Mario Kart, someone was playing as King Boo....

KING BOO?!!??!
KING BOO?!!??!
  • That these guys are playing on Yoshi Circuit, which has only been featured in Double Dash, and Mario Kart 8.
  • However, King Boo isn't playable in MK8, and as you can see in the trailer, this isn't Double Dash.

Could It Just Be A Third DLC For Mario Kart 8?

While I would love a third DLC for MK8, it doesn't look like this is it. Two major things stand out to me that prove why it's not a DLC and is likely Mario Kart 9 instead.

Cartridges!!!
Cartridges!!!

In the trailer you can clearly see one of the actors inserting a cartridge into his handy dandy #NintendoSwitch. While it's certainly possible that the console will also use discs, this might just convince me otherwise. On top of that...

The Trailer Shows Two Item Slots, Not Mario Kart 8's One Slot

MORE KING BOO!
MORE KING BOO!

If you look in the top right and left corners of the screen, you'll see that there are two spots for items. Mario Kart 8 only had one slot available for items, but maybe Mario Kart 9 could see a return of the two item slots like in previous games.

Could Mario Kart 9 Be A Launch Title?

I'M SO EXCITED
I'M SO EXCITED

With so many other amazing games expected to be on the Switch, I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo decided to make Mario Kart 9 a launch day title too. After all, if everyone wasn't already going to buy one, this might just do it!

Are you going to get the Switch When it comes out? Would you get Mario Kart 9 too if it was a launch title? Let us know in the comments!
