No, this isn't a hoax! Shiny Pokémon have finally started to appear in Pokémon GO. Well, shiny Magikarp anyway. This comes just a couple of days after Niantic announced the Water Event, an "exciting" new event (seriously I've already moved onto other games, just give us Legendaries already) that increases the spawn rate of water Pokémon–making this a great time to hunt for one to evolve into your Red Gyarados.
If you still don't believe this, you can watch the announcement video below where whomever is playing uses an Ultra Ball to catch a 66CP Magikarp–which is probably more unbelievable than this announcement.
In addition to Magikarp, the event has already seen an increased spawn rate for all Water type #Pokemon such as Squirtle, Psyduck, Poliwag, Seel, Vaporeon, Totodile, Chinchou, all their evolved forms, and of course the Dragonite killer, Lapras.
Trainers Are Already Catching And Evolving
While Niantic made the official announcement today, a number of players have already found the elusive catch and begun to evolve.
Even the Silph Road finally has one, so if you still don't believe your eyes...
...you should be able to just accept this as truth now. And just in case you were curious as to what Pokémon Go's version of a shiny Magikarp looks like.
It's shiny! ...or washed out yellow? I can't tell.
