Month by month, year by year, the popularity for the sport of mixed martial arts and the Ultimate Fighting Championship which oversees it, grows and grows. Whether it be the remarkable fight between Ronda Rousey and Holly Holm, or the victorious moment when Conor McGregor became the UFC Featherweight Champion, people all over the world are fully engaged in this rather brutal sport.
EA Sports attempted to capitalize on this growing craze by releasing EA Sports UFC in 2014, thus taking over THQ's UFC Undisputed series. While initial sales for the product weren't very promising, EA is hopeful for the franchise's future and feel it can garner similar acclaim and success to the franchise it has temporarily replaced, Fight Night.
For some players, EA Sports UFC felt like an endurance test when it came to adjusting to the game's rather difficult learning curve. However, the MMA title could deliver some satisfying fights once you adjusted to the control scheme, but it still has a long way to go in order to rival Fight Night Champion in my opinion.
But EA Sports UFC 2 promised to deliver the ultimate MMA experience, with improved controls, an expansive roster, and superior next gen graphics. It succeeded and we love replicating some of the best fights and knockouts in UFC history in this awesome and brutal video game.
EA Sports UFC 2: 10 UFC Knockouts We Love To Replicate
Everyone wants to see a knockout in a UFC match, they're exhilarating. But these have to be ten of the most shocking, impressive and greatest knockouts in the history of the sport. Agree? Disagree? Let us know what your favorite UFC knockouts are in the comments below!
10. Rashad Evans Vs Chuck Liddell
There's no denying it, Chuck Liddell was an absolute monster in the ring. Along with Randy Couture, he is widely credited for bringing mixed martial arts into the mainstream of American sports and entertainment. He was a former Light Heavyweight Champion and generally a terrifying beast. But here you have one incredible moment where Rashad Evans caught him off guard and completely floored him.
9. Chuck Liddell Vs Tito Ortiz
Need proof that Chuck Liddell truly was a monster in UFC bouts? Then here's your proof. This man absolutely lays into Tito Ortiz, landing multiple shots to his opponent's head before eventually forcing him to the ground in a crippled and bloody mess. Ouch.
8. Rich Franklin Vs Nate Quarry
This is some knockout. Here you can see that this bone-rocking punch from Rich Franklin send Quarry to the ground in a remarkable way. Quarry's muscles contract as he rigidly collapses to the floor in the first round. This was a remarkable fight and what a way for it to end!
7. Matt Hughes Vs Carlos Newton
The strength of Matt Hughes in this clip is remarkable. Not only does he manage to completely lift Carlos Newton over his head, he then walks across the ring and holds him up against the wall. He then keeps him there till he can catch his breath, then slams him into the ground in a winning knockout. Dayum.
6. Chuck Liddell Vs Randy Couture II
The knockout that clenched Liddell's victory and made him the Light Heavyweight Champion of the World. This second fight between Liddell and Couture, two of the biggest names in the history of the sport, was a fantastic watch, ultimately concluding with this winning series of punches from Liddell.
5. Dan Henderson Vs Michael Bisping
"Normally I'm not that way in fights, I know if the guy is out, I tend to stop, I knew I hit him out. I think that one was just to shut him up a bit." This is in reference to the second, slamming shot that Henderson delivered into Bisping's face after he collapsed to the ground from a hammering right. It's quite the knockout and you can see that Henderson's opponent has no idea where he is.
4. Gabriel Gonzaga Vs Mirko Cro Cop
This is just insane. The sound of this man's destructive leg smashing into Cro Cop's head can only make you cringe and imagine what it was like to take that hit. The commentators are referencing this man's power and how one of his kicks could break a rib, but just after this comment, Gonzaga unleashes that power on Cop's head. Ouch.
3. Edson Barboza Vs Terry Etim
One of my favorites. It makes a fantastic gif! I love how the commentator happens to utter the words 'knocked out' just as Barboza delivers a punishing roundhouse kick to Etim's head. His opponent slowly falls to the canvas, completely dazed. As Barboza confidently turns around and knows there's no way that guy is getting up off the canvas.
2. Ronda Rousey Vs Holly Holm
The fight that shook the world. Holly Holm's came out and defied expectations, and achieved what was thought to be the impossible. Not only did she force Ronda Rousey to lose the first round of her professional career, she then came back in the second round and forced Rousey to make sloppy decisions and mistakes that ultimately ended in a smashing kick to the side of her vulnerable head. Knock out. Amazing fight.
1. Conor McGregor Vs Jose Aldo
Beyond unexpected. As an Irishman myself, it's remarkable to see the pride and bravado of Conor McGregor as he dominates the weight divisions he enters on America soil. He's fast, powerful, tactical, and psychologically dangerous. We felt like he had an advantage over Jose Aldo in his latest fight, but no one could have predicted a 13-second knockout, which was finished by a devastating hammerfist to the head. What a show. Can't wait to try out this fight in EA Sports UFC 2!
