April has been a bit slow in terms of gaming news and releases - aside from the glory of FromSoftware's [Dark Souls 3](tag:3590458). But let me assure you, May has some plans of its own.

Some of the most anticipated games of 2016 will be releasing within weeks of one another once we cross the threshold, and I honestly have no idea how I'm going to keep up. Let's take a look at some of the highlights of what should hopefully be a great month for the industry.

The Merry Month of May

Battleborn - May 3

I'm really intrigued to see how the gaming world will accept Gearbox Software's online shooter which aims to incorporate the traditional gameplay of MOBAs into its chore design. We'll be battling against one another with a roster of 25 diverse characters, all of which have their own ways of launching attacks on enemy forces. We'll be leveling up over the course of each map and electing how we'd like to prioritze or own character's progression mid-game.

It's a really exciting prospect and I hope the game is as compelling as we want it to be. Battleborn will arrive on Xbox One, PS4 and PC.

Uncharted 4 - May 10

While the release date says May 10, copies of Uncharted 4 have already hit the market two weeks early. There have even been reports of copies of Naughty Dog's latest game being stolen from a truck while in transit in the UK. Not exactly the best way for a game to hit the market.

But we're sure that none of these unfortunate incidents will detract from the awesome work that the developers have put into Uncharted 4. Nathan Drake's final adventure promises action, large open worlds, superb acting and tons of emotions. It's a good time to own a [PS4](tag:2388122).

Can't wait.
Can't wait.

DOOM - May 13

The name that popularized the FPS genre is back. id Software are teaming up with Bethesda to release DOOM which will hopefully introduce the series to a whole new generation of fans. With tons of maps, crazy guns and demonic forces to annihilate, we're sure that this FPS will be an absolute blast. Are you excited for DOOM's multiplayer os singleplayer campaign?

Overwatch - May 24

Probably one of my most anticipated video games of 2016, Blizzard will be releasing their first foray into the world of first-person shooters in late May. They've dominated so many other genres in the past and are well known for attracting gamers who never even liked the genres that Starcraft, Diablo, or World of Warcraft inhabit.

Overwatch will be an intense and deep team-based shooter, one that hopes to surpass the accomplishments of Team Fortress 2 and other contemporaries. I sincerely hope it blows us all away. The game will have an open beta from May 5-9 for those that want to join in on the fun on Xbox One, PS4 and PC.

Aside from these giants, there are a few other names that may intrigue you:

  • Total War: Warhammer - May 24 for PC
  • Fallout 4 DLC: Far Harbor - Unspecified date in May
