What a month it has been – we have seen the death of two legendary gaming consoles and now we must say goodbye to one more iconic gaming franchise. It has today been confirmed by From Software’s President that the Demon/Dark Souls series has come to an end.

In an interview with GGN Gamer the president stated that it was time that the company moved on away from the Demon/Dark Souls series. The series gave them many years of bountiful joy but he feels that the series has come to a natural end. He reiterated to the press that "Dark Souls is over."

In the run up to the release of Dark Souls 3 Miyazaki was not shy in stating that this was going to be the last Souls in the series. I guess we all just kind of hoped he was kidding to hype up the game a little more before release.

The same goes for Demon Souls, Miyazaki was again very clear to tie in the Dark Souls predecessor into the death certificate. Presumably this will also go for Bloodborne as this title shares a lot of the Souls backend setup.

Miyazaki went on to say – he wanted to make it clear to the press that any form of associated platform will also be included in the termination.

Whether this is a permanent move or not is unknown He did go on to suggest that after the exploration of new IP’s he could/may entertain a possible notion of another Souls if he felt it necessary.

"There’s absolutely no plan right now for any sequels, spin-offs or tie-ins. But I can’t say for certain the possibility is 0%. For example, if a From Software developer come to me five years from now and beg ‘please let me make another Dark Souls‘. Then I will not rule out the possibility to let my subordinates start a new project. What is certain for now is, to me personally Dark Souls is over."

There is a silver lining here though, Miyazaki went on to reveal that work on an all new IP had already begun and that he wanted to assure fans that it would be very well received. "Development of a new IP has already begun."

But what could it be? If it will not follow any template left from Demon/Dark Souls what could they be working on that will equally please their current fandom? "I think it’s time we take a step to a new direction," he said.

He also made mention that the current Armoured Core IP will be set to continue. This is an area he wants to develop. We can expect another few Core’s by the sounds of it.

Personally I want to do it. After all I was involved in three games in the series. Armored Core is one of the pillars of From Software's lineup, but I can't reveal anything at the moment.

As for Dark Souls 3 – enjoy it and don’t rush through it in too much of a hurry. This is the last Souls experience you are going to get for at least five years and that’s hoping. Miyazaki confirmed that Dark Souls 3’s DLC packs will be bountiful, one will land this fall and the other early 2017.

RIP Demon/Dark Souls we will all pray for a resurrection. I call to all you Souls fans to take off your helmet and bow your heads in memory of this beautiful game.

Are you ready to say goodbye to Demon/Dark Souls?
