News that couldn’t have been more fitting to the occasion – on May 4th EA announced that they will be partnering with Titanfall developer Respawn, to produce an all new third person Star Wars game.

The news officially came from EA studio boss Patrick Soderlund who announced the collaboration on the most sacred of Star Wars days. It was described as an "all-new third-person action adventure game set in the Star Wars universe.

Respawn, who let’s not forget are currently working on Titanfall 2 were founded by Call of Duty veterans Jason West and Vince Zampella. These two talented industry specialists now sit within a team of uber fan-centric developers that aim to deliver not what the studio wants but what the fans want. The idea behind Respawn was that it will be a studio that is an advocate to the player – with this ethos in mind this upcoming Star Wars game could be out of this world!

Soderlund specifically said:

Over the past few years, I've had the opportunity to spend a lot of time with Vince Zampella and his group.Their obsession with making games that feel amazing has helped make Titanfall one of the most successful new game launches of this generation.

The game will be led through development at Respawn by God of War 3 director Stig Asmussen. Asmussen has been with Respawn for two years now and can’t wait to get started on the next Star Wars game. Asmussen thanked EA for the opportunity and stated that working on a Star Wars game is the "chance of a lifetime."

No actual game details were divulged by either EA boss Soderlund or Asmussen but at this point – I don’t really care – we have another confirmed Star Wars adventure on the horizon. Speculation can now begin on where we believe the next Star Wars adventure will take us.

Now, I understand on the surface this might sound a bit dry, but developing a game within the ever-expanding Star Wars universe opens up so many paths for us to go down, and an unparalleled playground to design within.

Respawn have promised to stay true to the franchise and will not bastardise any details. We can expect a true to form Star Wars experience.

But it's not all fun and games--we promise to pay respect to the Star Wars legacy at all times, a fact that will be constantly reinforced and honored as a central game design tenet. Fans should expect the exemplary level of quality first established at Respawn with Titanfall, a game that epitomizes our studio's dedication to slick, larger-than-life action and fun, groundbreaking mechanics. Moving forward, we couldn't ask for a better universe in which to continue this journey.

Will we see a focus on intergalactic space gun for hire Boba Fett or maybe even a journey through the Dark Side? So many potential pathways for Respawn to go with this. Rememer they are all about community input – if you have a vision then let them here it – get commenting below and get your ideas heard by Respawn.

No release date has yet been set but we can assume that the game will release across Xbox One, PS4 and PC in either late 2016 or early 2017.
