It's Lit (ten)!

Nintendo promised new information to be released on May 10th regarding the latest instalments of the Pokemon franchise, Sun and Moon. Fans speculated that we may receive our first look at the games starter Pokemon, the new region, or the new legendary Pokemon. Well Nintendo certainly delivered as we received all of the above, and a release date! Let's dive into the breakdown now!

The Starters:

As always, the three regional starters are grass, fire and water types! The fan reception is pretty divisive amongst the Pokemon community thus far, but so was X and Y's starters, and look at the fan following behind Greninja and Delphox!

Rowlet is the regions grass starter who is also a flying type. There are only 5 known grass/flying hybrids in Pokemon, and one of them is the mythical Shaymin. The official Pokedex entry for Rowlet states;

Rowlet can attack without making a sound! It flies silently through the skies, drawing near to its opponent without being noticed, and then lashing out with powerful kicks. It can also attack from a distance using the razor-sharp leaves that form part of its feathers.

Sounds like the speed stats will be insane for Rowlet!

Litten is the regions fire type starter. The official pokedex entry states;

Logical but also passionate, Litten always remains coolheaded and doesn't show its emotions on the surface.

Well definitely sounds like a cat. Based on the design alone, I will definitely be picking Litten, mainly because I could make a lot of "It's Lit(ten)" puns!

Popplio is the regions water type starter. The official pokedex entry states;

Popplio's swimming speed is known to exceed 25 mph. It's better at moving in the water than on land. Still, when it's on land, it takes advantage of the elasticity of its balloons to perform acrobatic stunts and jumps.

Like Rowlet, this starter looks to have insane speed stats. The reception for the design has been fairly negative, but since it resembles a sea lion, can you just imagine it's final evolution?

Welcome to the Alola region!

Pokemon introduces the Alola region to the main series! The region looks to be based on Hawaii which is the second time the series has taken inspiration from America as Black and White were based on New York City. Judging from the trailer, the region has a very tribal feel to it, which makes sense as it is based on Hawaii.

Not much has been revealed except some location shots, but I can imagine Coro Coro will release some information on the region next month!

The Sun and Moon legendaries have been revealed and they look incredible! I am particularly biased towards the Sun legendary but that's because I love Lions. No name reveals or type information but I can imagine the Sun legendary will be Fire, and the Moon will be Fairy, or maybe a new Lunar type?

I for one did not expect this much information to be released. Nintendo have been very generous to say the least. Oh and finally, you can expect Pokemon Sun and Moon to be released on November 18th 2016 worldwide! Oh and if you haven't already watched the trailer, or just want to marvel in it's awesomeness for the 20th time like me, then check it out below!

What starter will you pick? Do you like the Legendaries?
