So, the latest entry in the DOOM franchise hit stores a few days ago, and if you're like me you've spent the better part of the weekend blasting demons into tiny pieces with the ever-satisfying super shotgun. However, DOOM can be a tough game at times, especially to people new to the series, so here are my 3 tips on how to survive a demon incursion at your local UAC facility. Let's get started!
1. Keep Moving
DOOM is a game built around fast-paced, fluid movement. The gun play is smooth, and the melee finishers fit nicely into the pace of the game. That being said, if you stop for a breather, you're dead. With the added emphasis on vertical environments in newer entries to the series, there really is nowhere to hide when Hell comes knocking. Stay light on your feet and check every angle, else you'll get a personal introduction to a horde of Imps.
2. Get Those Pickups
Whether it be health, ammo, armor, or a shiny new gun to play with, seeing a much-needed pickup is a moment to celebrate in DOOM. So grab it before you die! And make note, when you perform a finisher on an enemy, they drop both health and ammo, so if you're running low seek out an imp or two to stock up your supply.
3. Variety Is The Spice Of Life
DOOM is one of those games that takes the 'There's no such thing as overkill' idea and adds a bunch more guns just in case. Be sure to experiment with each new weapon you pick up and determine which works best for your play style. For instance, if you like to stay up close and personal the super shotgun or chainsaw may be to your taste. Some may prefer the safe range of a heavy assault rifle. But everyone can agree that the BFG works in all situations, right?
So there you have it. With these tips, you should be well on your way to sending whatever DOOM throws at you back to Hell. Just don't forget your shotgun.
