We all have games that we love to play. We have our favorite characters, we have our favorite franchises and our favorite types of games; but what about the genre? Many people actually think that the genre is just "video games" but believe it or not video games have their own genres just like books, T.V., movies and so on.

For example my favorite genre of video game is Sports. Any game that has sports in it I will play gladly! I started playing Madden in the 3rd grade when my older brother got Madden 03 for the Playstation 2 and it had the Rams running back Marshal Faulk on the cover. That's when I truly fell in love with the sports games genre, mainly because I got to customize and create myself into a player, and I would always make myself a Quarterback and slide all my levels up to 100 making myself untouchable. Sports is one of the many popular video game genres, and here are the rest. After you read them all please take the poll at the end and let's see what the most popular is amongst readers!

Gran Truismo, Drive Club and Need For Speed are all games within this genre. Simply games where the objective is to drive or manoeuvre a vehicle.

The best way to describe simulation games is to bring up The Sims. If you don't know what The Sims is it's a game where you create an avatar and you simply just live life. You replicate everyday things that you would do in the real world, but you do it in a virtual space.

Strategy games are games like Kings Empire and Samurai Siege in which you can strategize and build armies and you focus on the long-term goals of the game and how you are going to achieve them.

This is probably one of the most popular game genres we have right now because of first person shooter games like Call of Duty and Battlefield. This genre is pretty straight forward as well, the objective consist of an avatar with a copious amounts of weaponry (guns) and many enemies in your way, and the game is centralized around killing.

Fight Night, Tekken Tag Tournament, Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, are all very popular games in the fighting genre. The objective of the game is to simply fight your opponent and win.

RPG stands for Role Playing Games, where the game is usually centered around the development of a character and interaction with a virtual world. There is sub genre called MMORPG as well which stands fro Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games, which are games like League of Legends, World of Warcraft and Dark Souls, where there is a massive online community that you can play with and against.

Assassins Creed, Batman Arkham series, Ratchet & Clank, are all good examples of action adventure games. This genre usually consists of an antagonist, protagonist and a story with twist and turns and challenges around every corner.

Above is some statistics showing America's favorite video game genres from 2014, I'd love to do my own so please select your favorite in the poll below and thank you for reading!
