One of Jake Gyllenhaal's biggest roles of the past decade was as Prince Dastan in Disney's Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time, but because the film received mostly negative reviews and average Box Office returns, we didn't see a sequel, but that hasn't stopped Gyllenhaal from signing onto another video game adaptation. Gyllenhaal has reportedly signed on to star in the film version of Tom Clancy's The Division.
Variety broke the story of Gyllenhaal leading the film but also joining as a producer. The Division only released earlier this year to a mostly positive response from gamers and $330 Million in sales in it's first week. This would be the third Ubisoft title adapted into a feature film after Assassin's Creed starring Michael Fassbender and Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell with Tom Hardy which is still in the development stage.
Tom Clancy is a name that still holds some weight to it, even after the author passed away in 2013. Jake Gyllenhaal is one of the most respected and acclaimed actors in Hollywood right now with brilliant performances in Prisoners, Enemy, Southpaw, End Of Watch and of course Nightcrawler. And video game movies are still stuck in a rut. Many of us had hoped Warcraft would boost the genre but sadly the film is mediocre at best and isn't looking to dominate the Box Office. So The Division has a lot going for it, whilst I wasn't a fan of the game at all, I would be interested in a film with Gyllenhaal in the lead.
There's currently no release scheduled for the film version of Tom Clancy's The Division, but you can pick up the game on PS4, Xbox One and PC right now.
