Square Enix has finally announced the release date for the highly anticipated final chapter prologue for the decade spanning Kingdom Hearts video game franchise. And they've announced the release with a brand new E3 trailer that does not disappoint. Take a look,
The new game features an HD remake of some of Kingdom Hearts classic titles such as Birth By Sleep and Dream Drop Distance. It is said that the game was rebuilt using the same technology that's being used to develop the upcoming release, Kingdom Hearts 3. While that title still has no release date or goal set in place, fans are still eagerly anticipating some news will be revealed this coming December with the release of 2.8. The latest full teaser for the eleventh entry in the franchise, was released during E3 2015.
Kingdom Hearts 3 has been shrouded in near complete mystery since it was first officially announced over three years ago. Fans have been begging Square Enix to release more information about the title, including new and returning fan favorite worlds to the franchise. Ones that have already been confirmed include returning favorite Olympus Colliseum from Disney's Hercules and newcomers like Tangled and Big Hero 6.
Other worlds rumored to be included in Kingdom Hearts 3 include Frozen, Star Wars, Toy Story, Wreck-It-Ralph and various other Disney titles new to the video game franchise. Rumors have also suggested that Disney is considering relinquishing the rights to Marvel titles such as The Avengers, as well.
Even though fans will seemingly have to wait another year for an estimated release date for Kingdom Hearts 3, at least now they can happily bide their time with the beautifully crafted remake that is 2.8. No specific date has been confirmed for 2.8 yet other than the target window of December 2016, so stay tuned for more updates as they become available!
