Just a few days ago, we were given an announcement trailer for the long-awaited Injustice 2. Fortunately, the build-up didn't stop there. Mortal Kombat creator Ed Boon took to Twitter yesterday rocking an Injustice 2 tee that he stated would be given away at the Mortal Kombat X ProLeague Season 3 Finals.

The shirt is riddled with teasers, as we can see different weapons and symbols representing a few of the DC characters that will be making an appearance in the upcoming video game.

Starting at the top and going from left to right, we have Aquaman's trident, what looks like Batman's cowl (or Orion's helmet?), what could be Wonder Woman's shield, Superman's symbol, The Flash's boot, Harley Quinn's mallet, Dr. Fate's helmet, Captain Cold's gun, and Green Lantern's, well, lantern.

Now, could the lantern represent another carrier of the ring other than Hal Jordon? Jon Stewart was an add-on character in 2013's Injustice, but it's possible he and a few other Green Lanterns will appear as main characters in this story.

One character reveal I'm particularly excited about is tat of of Dr. Fate's involvement in Injustice 2. For those who are unaware, Dr. Fate is a powerful sorcerer who acts as a member of the Lords of Order — a group of supernatural beings — in the battle against chaos. It sure will be interesting to discover Fate's role and what it entails in the game's storyline.

Injustice 2 is said to have a larger DC roster than any of its previous games, leaving room for our imaginations to run wild. This reveal of new playable characters is sure to spark lots of excitement, as fans have been waiting three years for a new story and new characters. So far, the announcements of playable characters have not disappointed. Along with the characters seen in the picture above, we also know that we will be getting newcomers such as Supergirl, Gorilla Grodd, and Red Lantern Atrocitus.

The Injustice: Gods Among Us storyline ended with the evil Superman being put into a red-sun prison which rendered him powerless. Our questions of how the story will continue from there were answered by NetherRealm studios, who had this to say:

"Injustice 2 continues the epic cinematic story introduced in 'Injustice: Gods Among Us' as Batman and his allies work towards putting the pieces of society back together while struggling against those who want to restore Superman’s regime. In the midst of the chaos, a new threat appears that will put Earth’s existence at risk."

Considering how vast the DC Universe is, there's no telling who this new threat could be. Brainiac? Darkseid? We'll just have to wait and see. If you haven't yet, be sure to check out the Injustice 2 announcement trailer below!

We can expect 'Injustice 2' sometime next year in 2017, available for PS4 and Xbox One!
