Star Wars: Battlefront, a game developed by EA, came out in 2015 and became an undeniable financial success, with more than 13 million copies sold worldwide. The game was the latest entry in the beloved Battlefront franchise and had, therefore, been a highly anticipated piece of entertainment among Star Wars fans.
Despite this, however, it has received a lukewarm reception from players around the world, with the main points of the game's criticism being the lack of both single and multiplayer content and its sole focus on the original Star Wars trilogy.
Now, it seems those concerns won't be a problem anymore. Ahead of E3 2016, EA hosted an event in Los Angeles. It consisted of a press conference and a space known as the EA Play Show for announcements of upcoming EA projects.
During that event, Star Wars: Battlefront 2 was officially announced by EA Games. Jade Raymond, founder of Ubisoft Toronto, had this to say:
"Next year, you'll get a new installment of 'Star Wars: Battlefront,' and we're listening to the fans and will add new content including content from the new films."
Could this "new content" encompass not only The Force Awakens but Rogue One: A Star Wars Story as well?
One thing's for sure: We don't have more information on the video game sequel. But if you're like me, you are probably in a fetal position on the floor waiting for more details. So to hold us over until further details are revealed, here is a video with a look ahead at what's in store for us from the video game world of the galaxy far, far away:
