In the year 2011, the world was introduced to one of the greatest fantasy action RPGs of all time: Skyrim! The fifth installment in the popular Elder Scrolls franchise was adored by critics and fans alike upon release and did so well that a "Legendary Edition" was released two years later.
Love for the game hasn't faltered at all, with millions of fans still playing the game today. Which is why when rumors that Bethesda was working on a remastered version of Skyrim hit the internet, fans went crazy!
A remastered version of one of the most popular last-gen games? You don't even have to ask gamers to sign up for something like that! For the longest time, this Skyrim: Remastered edition was only a rumor, but during a pre-E3 press conference, Bethesda officially announced to fans that it is real!
'Skyrim: Remastered' Is Real!
Although, it isn't called Skyrim: Remastered. Rather than go for one predictable name like "Remastered," Bethesda has opted to go for an...even more predictable name, Skyrim: Special Edition.
Predictable title aside, it's SKYRIM! The official reveal for Skyrim doesn't just come with a simple, "You were right" from Bethesda; they've shown players just how "special" the game really is.
It's Coming To New Consoles!
As expected, the Special Edition of Skyrim will be released for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, giving next-gen players the experience they might have missed out on originally!
This news comes with incredible comparison shots of the last-gen PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game alongside the current-gen versions.
It's Incredibly Beautiful!
The upgrade to current-gen consoles means an upgrade for the game itself. The graphics seem to have gone through a complete overhaul to truly be worthy of the PS4 and Xbox One.
Remastered art, effects, sounds, snow shaders, water shaders, field depth, and more make the game look better than it ever has! Skyrim was already a beautifully designed game, so I'm excited to see how it looks when I load it up in my PlayStation 4!
All The Mods!
Skyrim on PC has always had one really cool feature that the other versions didn't: mod support. Getting mod support on consoles is tough, so it's understandable that the last-gen console versions of Skyrim didn't feature them.
But now, with the power of current-gen systems, console players are finally going to be able to use mods! Skyrim: Special Edition will give console players the option to play from a variety mods. All the great mods are available, such as "Friendly Dragons," a giant follower, and...cats? Yes, cats!
Skryim: Special Edition is coming to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on October 28, 2016! I can't wait to explore the world of Skyrim once more!
