With the recent announcement of Injustice 2 for current-gen consoles, I'm getting hyped for the next installment of the fantastic DC fighting game from NetherRealm Studios. Naturally, I had to gather up a wishlist of what I want for the sequel to Gods Among Us. From more fighters to gameplay improvements, here are just some of the things I want to see in Injustice 2:
Fan-Favorite Fighters and Lesser Known Capes
When Supergirl, Grodd, Black Manta, and Atrocitus were revealed in the trailer, I wondered how far Ed Boon will go when including various superheroes and supervillains in the Injustice 2 roster. It'd be awesome to see every Green Lantern in the game, from Hal Jordan to Guy Gardner, each with their own unique movesets (heck, I'll even take extra skins, if that's what it takes). I'll enjoy playing as Captain Atom and Blue Beetle, but I have a wanting need for Booster Gold.
With the popularity of TV shows, Arrow and The Flash, we'll probably see Black Canary make an appearance as well as Zoom. While fan-pleasing characters is important, I also want to see characters that are lesser known amongst non-comic readers. We already got a glimpse of Black Manta (hopefully as a playable character and not as a cameo), so maybe Boon is digging deeper into the pile of DC heroes and villains to add to the roster.
In the first game, we got Scorpion from Mortal Kombat as a DLC character. And in Mortal Kombat X, we saw that NetherRealm Studios is willing to get a little weird with third-party characters, such as Leatherface and Predator, so why not do the same with Injustice 2? I'd like to go toe-to-toe with a few MKX characters or punch around a horror movie icon. But if we really want to stick with the whole superhero theme, then definitely add some characters from DC's other source, Vertigo. Imagine playing as Swamp Thing and duking it out with Superman or using supernatural powers as Constantine. I would even like Boon to consider adding Watchmen characters, like Doctor Manhatten (in all his half-naked blue galore). There's a vast array of characters outside of the common DC realm that can be included in Injustice 2.
We already saw a glimpse of it in the reveal trailer, but I would love more special intro-dialogue between the DC heroes and characters outside of the DC realm.
And let's be realistic: don't expect any Marvel characters to appear.
The Story: Multiple Universes?
I don't know about you guys, but I really liked the story mode in the first game, as well as all the prequel comics, despite a few "hiccups."
The first Injustice game revealed that traveling through different universes is a possibility and it definitely can be used again in the sequel. Perhaps the evil dictator Superman returns and wreaks havoc on our mainstream heroes by jumping to different worlds? Or maybe The Crime Syndicate has crossed over to do all sorts of mayhem and destruction? Hell, even Flashpoint can be a possibility, where Flash is the main focus of the story as he travels to another timeline. DC has all sorts of ripe storylines for NetherRealm to borrow from, which could also expand the character rosters/skins for us to use.
Even though the game was rated T, Gods Among Us was not afraid of showing some violent superhero action. In the introduction, we see Superman killing the Joker by shoving his entire arm through his body. Later, Superman kills Shazam (who, let me remind you, is a child!) by shooting laser beams into his eyes. I don't expect Ed Boon to censor himself for this next game, so I want to see some more unadulterated action in the story.
Expanded Super Moves and DC-Style Fatalities
One of my favorite mechanics in Mortal Kombat 9 was the X-Ray Moves, where bone-crunching, cringe-inducing attacks were shown in bloody slow-motion and with x-ray vision. NetherRealm carried this over to MKX as well as Injustice. However, in Injustice, it's something entirely different: Super Moves. Understandably less violent, but still epic to look at, exploring each characters' Super Moves was a great time between me and my friends, so I would love NR Studios to expand the Super Moves and add in more "flavor" to it. Maybe each character should have a variety of Super Moves or even unique environmental-based ones. MKX (eventually) had secret stage-based attacks and Fatalities, so why not carry that mechanic over to Injustice 2?
And speaking of Fatalities, it'd be awesome to see finishers with toned-down violence but still epic in scope. Hell, some of the Super Moves in the first game looked a lot like Fatalities already (looking at you Aquaman).
That concludes my current wishlist for Injustice 2. If you guys want anything else to be included in this game, I would love to hear about it.
