For anyone who's been as big of a Disney fan throughout their lives as I have, you've probably at least heard of Walt Disney World Quest: Magical Racing Tour. This racing game for the original PlayStation was very similar to Super Mario Kart — only, instead of Nintendo characters, it turned some of our favorite attractions from Disney World into race tracks. With a very creative character selection and wide variety of tracks to race on, it's definitely one of my favorite racing games of all time (and favorite Disney game, too...well besides Kingdom Hearts).
The game used a great deal of original characters, and the only noticeable characters that were included in the roster were Chip, Dale, and Jiminy Cricket. While I loved the roster as a child, I've often looked back fairly upset that Disney hasn't remade the game with a brand new roster, one including more popular characters. If the game were to be remade, I would prefer it be a reboot rather than a remaster for this reason. The characters may have been fun and original, but not letting me play as Donald Duck is a major problem that needs to be fixed.
The game included courses based on attractions and parks from all over Disney World; featured attractions included Splash Mountain, Rock'n'Roller Coaster, Dinosaur, and Haunted Mansion. Although none of the featured rides have been removed since the game's release in 2000, MGM Studios changed into Hollywood Studios and Test Track has changed a lot. But even beyond that, there are so many more new rides to include that I would love to race on — Toy Story Mania definitely being one of them.
Unlike other kart racers of its time (and still today) Magical Racing Tour had a story mode. While it was pretty loose and not exactly necessary to follow, it was still there and a nice touch none the less. If the game were to be rebooted, I don't think a story would be entirely necessary, though, as long as the roster were decent.
One nice thing about some games today are DLCs. Obviously it's a heated topic, what with the cost and whatnot, but as someone who bought both of the Mario Kart 8 DLCs and all of the new characters in Smash Bros. 4, I would be completely open to DLCs in a potential reboot of Magical Racing Tour. While seeing some Kingdom Hearts characters may be out of the question, it would be really cool to get DLCs including characters from the newest Disney movie, whatever it may be at the time of a potential reboot.
