In the 6th generation of the beloved Pokémon series the creators added a new feature to the game called 'Mega Evolutions.' 'Mega Evolution' is a type of evolution that can only occur during battle. It requires the Pokémon to be in it's final evolution, the trainer must have a 'Key Stone' and the Pokémon has to have a 'Mega Stone.' When a Pokémon mega evolves, its stats are raised by 100 total and their look slightly changes. For some Pokémon there are even different form of mega evolutions. Charizard has both an X and Y mega evolution, one for each game. After the battle, the Pokémon returns to its normal form.

So this new kind of evolution was introduced in Pokémon X and Y and new mega evolutions were also included in the latest two games Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire which are rebooted versions of older games.

With Pokémon Sun and Moon coming out in November and bringing with it the 7th generation of Pokémon, it's bound to introduce some new mega evolutions. Let's take a look at the possible candidates.

This is a classic Pokémon that have had people asking the same question for 20 years 'What are the heads coming from?' Well, maybe with a mega evolution, we could get the answer. Since Dugtrio's stats aren't that great, it could also be a benefit in battle.

Donphan is a generation 2 Pokémon. Its stats are not too bad with high defense and high attack and an OK health. But this I feel could be improved on quite a bit. Maybe give it a new type so it can have some new moves to work with.

Butterfree is another classic Pokémon from the first generation. It was the first Pokémon a lot of people caught in the classic games and it was Ash's in the anime. In Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire Beedrill got it's own mega evolution and Beedrill has the same total stat points and they are both very similar and it could be cool to see this classic and nostalgic Pokémon get a mega evolution.

Milotic is a pretty powerful water-type that has a pretty awesome look if you ask me. This could be a very cool mega evolutions. Milotic is regarded as a very beautiful and graceful Pokémon and they could make it even more beautiful or just give it a cool new look.

Greninja is the water-type starter from generation 6. You might ask yourself 'Why didn't they just give it a mega evolution in before?' I think it's because it would be weird to introduce a new Pokémon, give it 3 evolutions and then a mega evolutions right off the bat. The reason I'm saying this one though is because in the anime they have introduced a different form of mega evolution. This only happens to Ash's Greninja. It becomes surrounded by water and it's powers are stronger. It seems to have a connection wit Ash since Ash can feel all of Greninja's pain, they call this form Ash-Greninja. Anyway they might be hinting the Ash-Greninja form will be the actual mega evolution for Greninja in the 7th generation.

Any Previous Starters

I know that I just said Greninja, which is a starter, but if you look online most of the fan art of possible mega evolutions will be of previous starter Pokémon like Typhlosion, Infernape or Feraligatr. All starter from generation 1 and 3 already have mega evolutions so they might add more to this next generation.

We all saw this coming, right. Because of the massive success of the anime, every trainer wants a Pikachu and there has only been one generation where you couldn't catch Pikachu. So everyone one wants a Pikachu but you just can't resist giving Pikachu that Thunder Stone and making him even stronger. Since everyone love Pikachu and he is the official Pokémon mascot, Raichu (Pikachu's evolution) is the perfect choice for a mega evolution.

So which pokémon do you think will get a mega evolution is 'Pokémon Sun and Moon'?
