With Pokemon fans everywhere revelling in their childhood dreams of becoming the very best, other fandoms have become slightly jealous by the concept of the Pokemon GO app. Many Harry Potter fans have dreamt of whizzing around, conjuring spells, finding Horcruxes and mythical creatures for real. So much so, that one fan took it upon themselves to make a petition to try and attract Warner Bros. attention. And in celebration of the upcoming release of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, it's no wonder that this petition currently has 10,191 signatures already!
Ashtyn Hannon is the Potterhead behind the petition, and in the description of the cause, they state;
"The possibilities are endless. In a Harry Potter augmented reality game, you could cast spells in real life. Accio Firebolt! And have a wizard duel with your friends, expelliarmus could disable their app for a few seconds! Who is your second?"
Can you imagine all of the fun we could have?! Each individual could have their own set of Horcruxes, you could try and find your friend's Horcruxes and finally take them down (well virtually at least). You could find all sorts of mythical creatures, as Ashtyn suggests in her petition;
"In honor of the new movie, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, you could search for magical creatures, like hippogriffs, and dragons, and goblins, and acromantulas. Follow the spiders Ron."
I'm not too sure how they'd conduct Quidditch matches, but I'd sure give it a go! They could install a virtual invisibility cape for when you're tracking a creature or person on the app... HOW FUN WOULD THAT BE!?
Ashtyn evolves their point further;
"With Harry Potter Go, you could search for the seven Horcruxes, and then for swords, and basilisk fangs to destroy them. Someone get a Time-Turner and make this game yesterday!"
I'm all for this cause! Pokemon GO has opened the doors for many virtual opportunities for big cult films, like Harry Potter. Imagine the interactivity available for Hogwarts GO! And this could spark a string of big franchise films utilising the Pokemon GO structure, Ghostbusters GO? Lord Of The Rings GO? Star Wars GO?! (although finding the Death Star may be a tad difficult). I, for one, will be signing straight away!
