I'm sure even the name 'Sonic the Hedgehog' brings back beautiful, amazing memories of the Sony Megadrive, the Gameboy, the PS1 and 2, and even the animated series (I know I watched it). So it's with great pleasure that I stumbled upon the nostalgic teaser trailer released by PlayStation...

Sonic The Hedgehog

The lovable character dawned on us through the first Sonic game, titled Sonic the Hedgehog, and was a platform game released in 1991. I feel saddened that I'd be birthed only 7 years later, meaning I couldn't have experienced this first hand, but I'm sure for many fans of Sonic, this game is the epitome of nostalgia. After this, a whopping twenty five more installments in the Sonic franchise were presented to us, resulting in the twenty sixth and seventh installments (Sonic Mania and Sonic: Fire and Ice) being released in spring 2017, on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC (Fire and Ice will be released on Nintendo 3DS, later this year). Sony reveals in the trailer that the game will continue with the typical style of Sonic, and remain as a 2D Platformer.

Sonic Mania: The Trailer

The teaser trailer for Sonic Mania begins with a flashback to the past, showing game play from the original and well loved levels that excite any Sonic fan. They've included the original SEGA opening title screen, feel the nostalgia run through you! Even the music sings sweet melodies of 1991 to us, in true Sonic form. There will be new levels, acts and areas, re-inventions of the classic levels and new bosses to defeat! This is the description PlayStation gave on their YouTube Channel;

Sonic Mania brings fans back into the 2D world of platform games with nostalgic pixel-style art and core classic gameplay by reimagining iconic Zones and Acts from Sonic The Hedgehog, Sonic The Hedgehog 2, Sonic CD and Sonic The Hedgehog 3 and Knuckles. Before you get too lost in nostalgia of the 1990s, the game is also adding in completely new Zones with all-new Acts and bosses into the mix.

Not only will Sonic Mania be released in Spring 2017, but Sonic: Fire and Ice will be coming to Nintendo 3DS later this year. Sony have really pushed the boat out to celebrate 25 years of this lovable, speedy hedgehog!
